"Courtney To Replace Skaife... " - News Ltd

Three weeks, 3 controversial articles in the News Ltd group of newspapers.

Article Here

Its difficult to get a read (haha) on the intentions of the driver not knowing the background of the writer, and having absorbed his work previously... if you were to take the story at face value, Mr Courtney doesnt look like he is waiting for a Ford offer....

While Little Jim may have got his contract running out at season's end, what about his contract with Ford Motorsport itself? When does that end?

Ford are considering dropping all driver contracts, arent they?

Thats the impression the motorsport press seem to have. Makes logical sense too... when the hot Ford drivers are on beer money relative to the expensively contracted 'stars'

it only logical that he JC was to win races and fight for he championship then HRT is the same to do it with,i cant see Ross and Jimmy giving him a car capable of doing this.

We've all seen this before.

Border/Taylor/Waugh all copped crap from the media when they weren't scroing centuries as captain, our footy stars cop it harsh when they arent kicking goals or scoring tries.

Our media is so results oriented it's not funny. In particular, News Ltd seems to give our stars a horrid time.

Thankfully most in this forum have their own brain, and know it's utter rubbish.

I don't know about JC but after Skaifes effort today, someone will get the job, that's for sure.

As it happens... I thought Mr Skaife did an outstanding job as a teev commentator, able to offer genuine insight from recent driving experience.

For some reason he is able to relate the particular technical activities of the team, car, engine, gearbox, tyres or whatever.. and make it sound plausible and informative

How about a Crompton/Skaife/Jones commentary team from '09?

Think there's too many analysts and no real Play-By-Play to make it happen.

Actually if they looked after 10 cars each, the insight could be amazing!

I'm never been convinced that play-by-play is all that necessary. If it is, Crompton is more than capable, and a hell of lot more palatable than White or any of those who have gone before him. e.g. No yelling etc.

from the article it seems that young James is blowing his own trumpet

I would give the drive to PD over JC (he wrecks less cars)

i'm sceptical about everything the Telecrap and it's associates write after what they write about "rumours" in footy and how much of it comes true it's just as bad as my driver movements thread of last year, so i would say the same thing will happen here, like i do with the footy i won't believe it until it's official.

if i was going to replace him on current form the only 2 i would want would be Lee or Frosty arse.

if that is really quoting JC then all i can say is JC stop *******.

Thats debatable.

Going year for year (including Courtneys overseas driving) i'm sure dumbrell would have the title.

That's disappointing to hear. I hope that's not true. No way is JC a better driver than Skaife, based on recent record. When I say record I actually mean returning the car without a scratch, not just podium finishes.

The more and more I read that article, the less convinced I am by it all.
The author obviously has an agenda, that being to convince everyone Skaife is gone at the end of the year. But when you read the quotes from Courtney, they really don't add up to anything much.

Alan Gow would have approached HRT - he'd be stupid not too, but unless Skaife is going there isn't any room for his man. Talks are one thing, and I don't really doubt that talks wouldn't have happened - but will there be any real action?? Guess we will have to wait & see.

It's a classic article - they way some of it is written it's like Skaife has retired already. I had my grandfather tell me today that Skaife was retiring - he watches the racing because I do, but is not an avid follower. Kind of proves what is read in the paper is taken as fact. A shame really.

Your not wrong, the amount of non-fans i've had telling me the Grand Prix has gone from Australia....

It could of course be PR talk, but Skaife hardly seems in the retirement mood.

Probably - But what it does show, is that Crompton honestly believes his mate Skaife is being misrepresented by someone in the media. If Neil choses to use a few seconds worth of the telecast to stick up for his mate, then good on him. We all know Neil has his favourites, just listen to the way he says "lowndes" - but he's the best man for the job, a man close to most in the paddock. Good on him.
