That's irrelevant I'm afraid. A company can have its base currency as anything it chooses.

I am still here

Nice new liveries for FRA, SUI and BRA, but: nothing on teams GBR, IND, GER or CAN today ( photos that is ).

Probably not... it's A1 Grand Prix Operations Ltd that actually runs the show and that files its accounts in the UK (with the £ as its currency).

I wasn't actually thinking of you RichardRenes!

No GBR, GER, CAN, IND or MEX at yesterday's test. There is another test on Monday, but even if they join that one day test then they will still have had less testing than everyone else.

Not sure what to make of this:

1. Cars are still not ready? Would be a surprise as at the rate they were churning them out just before Zandvoort they should have finished them all by now.
2. A1GP is cutting costs by no longer supporting franchises financially? In the current financial climate that makes sense, although they will have a massive PR job to do as it will give ammunition to those who like to speculate from the sidelines about A1GP's financial health, and it would compromise crowd size at Mexico and British races if there is no home team. With promoter fees and franchise fees it would mean A1GP would achieve positive cash flow however?

Ireland and Monaco should now have had as many testing days as anyone else, so if we don't see GER, GBR, CAN, MEX or IND on Monday then it would only be Brazil, France and Switzerland testing? Would seem hardly worth it therefore surely we will see at least India.

No, no, no ........ what I was saying (or trying to) was that the financial crisis could harm A1GP as a whole, like it will yacht racing and even Formula 1, but A1GP must be more vulnerable than F1,

THe South African team is funded from South Africa and the word on the street here is that they are looking for serious funding, more than before. But the SA currency has lost a lot against the major monies.

I like A1 and it was announced that Jeroen Bleekomolen will be racing a Shelby Can-Am at Kyalami next month.

I heard from a Mexican friend that Team Mexico is securely backed by their government, so they should be there.

Canada and Germany have stated, in various media, that their team owners want to quit, so we may lose them.

I am not sure about team GBR and/ or India. Surely India seems to have had sponsors enough to continue.

And.. it may just be publicity: run 6 cars now, and 6 monday and you will have twice the exposure than running 12 cars today

A1gp.com has Karthikeyan down on the driver list for Chengdu, so I guess they will be ready.

In other big news, Team Monaco will have a new coffee machine in their garage for the rest of the season, a deal which apparently has "the personal blessing of His Serene Highness, Prince Albert II of Monaco"

That is a very bold accusation. Why would any team want to compete in a series that they know they cannot win. (unless it's F1..)

If that is the case then why do teams continue? Money? Definitely not as most teams (if not all) are not making any profit.. yet.

Yet again that chip on your shoulder! I agree that A1 is being inconsistant at present. However you are being rather in silly! China's chance of winning is only marred by the level of competition on race day.

If Team China set their car up well, if they perform well in the pitstops, if the driver manages to keep the car on the black stuff and if he manges to drive quickly then they will win.

It has nothing to do with privilege.

It is solely down to ability. Please attempt to get a grip on reality and leave racism, xenophobia, misguided resentment and prejudice out of it.

Besides, Congfu Cheng was rather busy this weekend, so I think China not testing have something to do with that . It's totally concievable that Cheng was there thursday for making a seat, then had to go to Hockenheim and the car will be ready for him on Monday.

No privileges just fire fighting.. Its only possible to test if you have parts for crashed cars. Some cars have had to be shipped to China incomplete after crash fest at Zandvoort with parts being made available there.(we hope) No New cars tested!!

Switzerland, Brazil, Portugal, Korea, France and China were testing today at Silverstone. India, Mexico and GBR will get extra track time at Chengdu as they still (!) haven't tested their cars...

Indeed, Tourism Secretary is behind like last year and maybe other sponsors...related to the possible drivers could jump in...

let me give you a guess, i may go wrong but...MEX drivers, could be all from Monterrey...We knew Esteban Gutierrez is appointed as rookie driver for some races...recent presence of David Garza at Euro F3000 make me think he's going to return...but i would not rule out David Martinez

Also, it was posted during last weeks on Italiaracing.net that MX team could be managed by Adrian Campos...this is the link to the story...

Good news indeed. Too bad they couldn't test today

And I am still inclined to say Campos is working on an A1 team Spain.. that would require money.. simply hiring staff for running A1 team Mexico would not

Anyone know anything more on whether GER and CAN teams still exist?

Alan Jones mentioned in the racetalk podcast that parts are an issue and for that reason Australia will not be running a rookie at Chengdu. Dirty and narrow track with not a lot of runoff...not a great place to go if you are short of spares.

Do you think Spain for this season or season five Richard?

as it took Monaco 6 months to get everything going, I am inclined to say season 5.. There was a team Spain scheduled for this season, with Sunred, which we know from the Fia WTCC, as tech team. For some reason this didn't happen.

Another flag covered with the A1 flag on the spare car is the Russian one. (there is footage somewhere on Youtube which shows that car without the A1 flags. search for entries entered by 422race ).

On the other hand, at that time, the Canadian and German flags were on them even if their presence would be in doubt. Also, German and Canadian entries were in the Zandvoort programme, with their new liveries displayed (German one is going to be neat .

The news is out. GBR, IND and MEX will appear at Chengdu, Pakistan and Germany will return at Taupo. Pakistan due to Khan not fitting in the car and Germany due to a change of seat-holder. No news of Canada.

and that Pakistan issue is taking the ****. They've known since the beginning it would be adam khan driving so why didn't anyone at Ferrari think about getting the dimensions of all the possible drivers to ensure the damn thing fit? what a joke :|
