David does not skimp from what I can tell and that is one the countries top Jag engine builders lumps.

I am actually going to do as Terry suggests and have two engines on stands at the moment and am going to symultanously (God I wish this old signwriter could spell!) build a new one and repair/rebuild and existing one it actually works out cheaper in the long run as I can do a bulk purchase from Summit Racing in the US for all the parts and hopefully they will deal at least on P & P. I have two steel cranks being machined as we speak (or type) so also cuts down on the running around. When finished I will then put the hopefully much more powerful engines in the black and yellow cars and hold back the cooking engine as a spare for either. Mind you I am not 100% sure where I am running the black car yet as somethings needs clarifing in the rules where I was going to run it (this thread has me thinking and I dont want to compromise on legality and never did want to) so it may end up getting stroked out to 6.2 litre for oak tree pulling torque and entered in a freer formula.

If I am not wrong this particular car entered the Six Hours race for almost 10 times and finished 7 times. Maybe we should bring in a special Sx Hours Award for such a great result!

Esper is this a comprehensive lesson in Dutch History or what?
excelent Thijs , but the money spend on the "flesh" xaviera for one hour is as much as was spend on the "flashy orange" Xaviera for 10 years 6h (one 5) . So Flashy orange was a better run for the money or is that...............to dutch

The refuelling system was ridiculous. A few weeks earlier VdeV did a 4 hr race using a refuelling station at the end of the F 1pilane; your won mechanic in overalls doing the refuelling and the drivers change in the pits.
We tried to reason with the Belgians but they wouldn't listen.
For most drivers it's impossible (and dangerous) to do their own belts; with a closed helmet you just can't see what you're doing.
Fortunately the driving was much better than last year.

Somebody asked how a Mustang could win.

Well, I'll tell you all:
I had a great start, from 8 to 4th, got away from the Cobra's because they were losing time fighting.
Then we had (with some luck because of the race being 5 hrs and not 6) the perfect strategy. I did the first 2 hours, and came in in 3rd place (most others had already refuelled under green) just as the safety car went out; we changed drivers and Rene got to the fuelling where he could refuel immediately and get back out still behind the safety car.

After one hour 10 he came in for David Hart to take over for the last stint. David only had to take on 75ltrs and drove 2.59's almost all the time in the dark.

The GT40's were much quicker but never thought about their brakes during their fights so none of them were there during the last hour.
We only had to watch the Aston and the E-type and we were all doing similar times.
The Shelby never missed a beat and we finally got the dampers to work well with the Avon's. We also had new pads which could last the 6 hrs.

We did have some luck: after the race we found that our fuel calculations were a bit tight. There was only 2 ltrs of fuel left after the finish!!!

And if you wear a HANS its even more dangerous, which is why I didn't wear mine.
