Metro Gti Championship

The storm grey car was H407GAC. It was the 'Team Longbridge' car driven by Malcolm Oxborrow and navigated by Trevor Shakespeare. It was sold and replaced by the Golden Syrup car that was drive by Tony Pond. That Tate & Lyle's livery was only a vinyl wrap and was white underneath. The Longbridgec car was by myself on the 1994 championship in the Union Flag livery. In 1993 I drove it's sister cag H404GAC. This had a huge roll on the Tour of Flanders but was re-shelled. I think everyone copped an unfortunate one at some point in the Metro GTi Championship. Don Kettleborough totally destroyed his in Otterburn. So bad in fact that there was nothing they could salvage. Rollcage was snapped, engine block cracked, shell lonzenged so that no two corners touched the ground at the same time, every panelv and piece of glass smashed - even their helmets were cracked and were kept by the MSA!

Hi Pablo, I found some pics of your car (including your left elbow in one!) from the 1993 season, after the wet Donington race and the start of the Cheviot Rally

I must try and add some names to these faces later

In this picture are the Metros of: Malcolm Oxborrow, Don Kettleborough, John Rowson (rear), Pablo Raybould

Pablo, do remember this show including Don Kettleborough's Metro GTi, a couple of Paddy Hopkirk's cars and your Tony Pond MG Maestro?
I reckon it must have been 1992.

Wow, Just found this thread through Google

Does anyone have any pics or info on G979 RNH?

My mate owned it after purchasing on ebay and used it as a track toy until recently before it was sold. It then started in the 2011 MG Metro Cup until the new owner bent it last weekend at Oulton Park.

The ebay ads earlier in the thread are the seats and harnesses from this car!

I was just wondering if anyone knows of any roversport stickers available.
I'm looking for the rear quarter panel stripes which are maroon and yellow which go up above the rear side window. The 1991/1992 livery as shown on the pics above. Also i'm looking for the maroon stickers with the sponsors names in white which go on the bottom of the rear quarter panel.
Also looking for the rover/dunlop door square.
And finally the bonnet stripes which cover part of the bonnet/ extentions of the wing stripes.

If anyone knows of any i'd be very interested in purchasing them.

Thanks,
Connor.

Metro Gti Championship

Just found a few more pics. One of Peter Colmer-Gwynnes car, Gilly Handley's car and a couple more of mine. There is one with co-driver Nick Starkey with whom I did the Tour of Flanders.

If anyone comes across any Roversport Metro GTi 1991/1992 stickers please let me know. Looking for the yellow/maroon stripes and any dimensions would be great if anyone knows them.

Thanks,
Connor.

Just wondering if anyone has wired up a genuine Roversport Metro GTi lamp pod wiring loom? Because i have one and am not sure where some of the wires go, it's supposed to be wired up so that the lamps come on when high beam is selected and off when dip beam is selected and there's a switch to control the lamps manually.

Thanks for any help,
Connor.

Hi, was looking for a bit of info on this series so glad I found this thread.
Have a look at the link for the film I have of this series, it only coveres incidents (that's all I kept back then) and has 1991-93 seasons, Pablo you are on at 2:09 having a big spin through the Craners in swimming pool conditions! Enjoy.

Great video. I wasn't aware they used aftermarket steering wheels.

Incase anyone views this i thought i'd post a few pictures of my ongoing replica of Malcolm's car, i've tried to get the decals as close to original as possible but it's not easy. Luckily i did have some original decals which i got copies of because i didn't want to use originals. ( sunvisor strip, rear spolier, and front wing stripes). The rest are made from either scaling down other decals or making templates.

This was spotted by a colleague of mine (Garry Phillips) at Croft yesterday during the 2012 SpecSavers Christmas Stages. Does anybody know if it was an original Challenge car, or 'simply' a modern day copy of one?

Definitely not original decals, since if you look at my car. The front stripes are too wide on the car you pictured plus the sun visor strip is too big/ comes too low. Mine are original reproductions, i have the originals also so got a copy made.

It does look very nice though.

Connor.

Thanks Connor.

About 10 minutes after I'd posted the photo and asked the question, I pretty much came to my own conclusion that it wasn't an original Challenge car anyway - the driver's seat is tilted forward! - which would suggest it is little more than a caged / stickered road car.

Does anyone know how the bonnet pins were secured on the Metro GTi cup cars? They seems too high up to be mounted to the slam panel?

Any info is appreciated,
Thanks,
Connor.
