Minardi Peace Stickers Part Deux

Quote:
MINARDI team principal Paul Stoddart recently received anonymous death threats after his cars carried the message 'Malaysia for Peace' on their side-pods at last month's Malaysian Grand Prix.

The local government in Malaysia had asked the Minardi team to place the message on their cars as a sponsorship deal for that single race.

Meanwhile we are hearing reports that Russian sponsors Gazprom has come up with sponsorship money it was due to pay the small Italian outfit.

If Minardi is sponsored by Peace - who sponsors British American Racing?

It's pathetic that people should have the cheek to do that sort of thing. I believe Stoddart isn't going to continue with the Peace stickers...

Do what sort of thing? I think it is laudable to be on the side of peace, irrespective of the motive.

There's enough politics in F1.

I don't believe that Dubya is BAR sponsor...I'd stop supporting them instantly and write to Jacques ordering him to leave the team.

Rrrrg, can people PLEASE refrain from mentioning the war/peace? I just about let my disdain for certain things get the better of me and start writing another essay. Do it in the gravel trap.

Glen, I think nicolas was referring to the threats on Stoddart's life, not the stickers.

While I don't agree with the Malaysian government's view, if they want to pay to put a message on the cars, and Stoddart's willing to accept the money, there's nothing wrong with it.

It's pretty damn sick and reflects poorly on everyone when some looney is threatening people just because they might have a rather mild anti-war message.

Besides, Stoddart's an Aussie, he doesn't have any particular reason to support anyone involved in the war (which is basically over already, unless there's continued civil unrest, or, God forbid, we invade Syria next).

True. And what about peace rallies that erupt into violence?
