At the 2003 Bathurst 24 Hour the Tuelan GT3 was an "upspecced" Cup Car to Class 1 regs. (It was allowed a few more flash bits, suspension etc). However the Alzen car was run to Class B, International Carerra Cup regs. The Green Falken tyres car was much more developed for that race. |

Hence, the Falken car finished ahead, but didn't take a class win.
Btw, when is the Daytona 24hr going to be run? Is it like the Indy 500 where they start practice a month out or something? |

I think "much more" is stretching it a little... the Teulan CC car didnt show a lot of pace during the 2003 CC season... the car was specced well, but that doesnt mean it was "developed", with the correct damper package aboard, but not necessarily with the latest settings and thinking... especially considering the standard package was set for Michelins, and it seems the Falkens are a different animal.. as are the Hoosiers being run in the Daytona race....

So the Daytona 24hr is on this weekend.. and we have the Morris/Teulan/Baird/Ambrose car in the field....
In Q1, the #00 Aussie Assault car qualified 36th, or 11th in GT with a 1:58.320, or 10 outright (and class) places and 2.362 seconds off the class polewinning #71 Farnbacher GT3 at 1:55.958 In Q2 (which seemed to only have GT cars and a single prototype in it), the #00 Aussie Assault car qualified 2nd, or 1st in GT with a 1:56.766. There were some very good cars behind the Porsche in this session, but perhaps the #3 and #4 drivers aboard... The car seems to be getting quicker in each session, which is good news..... The race is supposed to start 4am Sydney time tomorrow (Sunday) according to the Telegraph, and can be viewed via the web on live timing at http://www.grand-am.com/ and by clicking the links.... |

I think a few US based observers would be surprised by the performance of this fairly low buck effort from Australia(rented older model Gt3). That 1 min 56 time is nearly one of the fastest times done by a GT car all week. When you think Paul Morriss has not raced a PorscheGt3 before and has (as far as I know) been at Daytona before that is a pretty amazing time.

GTR: damn David, wrong twice in the same thread?
The #00 Aussie Assault Porsche qualified 32nd on the grid, not 36th. The improved their time in the second qual session, and indeed were second fastest (the 30 fastest cars from Q1 had their qual spots locked in so only 31st downards was avaialble. The faster car in the session was a Doran prototype. They are 6th on the grid in class, but were actually fourth fastest (because of the top 30 thing). They are also the second fastest Racers Group Porsche behind Andy Lally in the #65 car. I don't think TRG have factory Porsche status anymore, bearing in mind that all the Porsches are GT3 Cups, not the faster RS and RSRs of the last couple of years. |

From the last few laps, the 00 car is running 1.5-2 seconds quicker than the class leader in front of it... there may be a change of position soon!!!!!

Judging by the current relative laptimes, Mr Teulan may in fact be in the car at the moment....
