Geraint Owen should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Having never been to Spa before I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on gearing. The car is a drum braked 50s car, which touched 145mph into Stowe at Silverstone Classic. How does Spa compare?

Looking forward to it!

Thanks

Geraint

I know we've been through all this before but my memory is dim. Will suits, helmets etc etc all need to be under 5 years for this event?

No age limit on suits, underwear, helmets etc as long as everything complies to the current standard I.e. 8856-2000 for clothes or anything from Snell 2000 upwards for your bash hat. I don't think the red label BS helmets are legal. Undies, socks, balaclavas etc must also be 8856-2000 and carry a label (with the makers' name) to that effect.

Seats and belts have five year limit, except the latest FIA standard perches which have 10 years life. Or you can use standard seats...

The link is good, I was reading it last night!

You did, although the regs have been tightened for this year and only FIA approved (in date) seats, will be accepted.

There is a slink to the info provided by the organisers. I think Gordon posted it.

Silverstone gearing is fine for the Birdcage at Spa Same as we use anyway.

Have they changed the rule or is the wording ambiguous?

From the Spa website.
Racing seat, if original seats are changed it must
be for seat system for which the FIA Homologation is
valid.
FIA Standard 8855-1999 (valid 5 years)
FIA Standard 8862-2010 (valid 10 years)

I only got this second hand from paddock gossip but someone turned up with a Lotus Cortina with an out of date FiA seat and was turned away. He then went and saw a friend who lives nearby and got an original seat out of friends Lotus Cortina. He went back to the scrutineers with it fitted an was turned away again as he said it wasn't a proper Lotus Cortina seat.

I better not chuck those standard seats away from an old Camaro I'm breaking then. So what about if they tilt forward as in to let the rear seat passengers get in on the original car is that OK? mind you I must admit some standard seats are a lot more substantial than some aftermarket seats.

Al, what are you racing at Spa? Only I worry that you'll be rejected by the scrutes if you try to play smart. Anyway see you there.

Cheers, Tim. Luckily, if I wanted to race it there, my Morgan is period E so should be exempt, but my little Gilbern is F. I don't think will ever manage to get a modern seat in it unless I cut out the roll cage and start again or have legs shortened by 6".....

If I raced a MK 1 or 2 Zephyr could I use the original bench seat ? That would remind me of my "courting" days in my "yoof"

Ahhhh, B6F or B7 then. They could benefit from shouting it a bit louder in DT's catalogue!

Cheers for that.

On the continent, nearly all the Cortinas where 2 door, and many had a split bench seat for rear access . . . angled tilt, towards the window naturally! . . .I have one here, its a 1200 deluxe. there are hundreds of 1200 delux Cortina's racing, and frankly the seats better than some 'race' installations I've seen, even with no seat belts. Jeff Uren did the Monte in a 1200 Cortina in '62, so I see no reason why one wouldn't be eligible for U2TC
