Biggy G should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Can we speculate on who's going?

Gibson?
Haber?
Lockwood? (Bairdo's old ride)
Mclaughlin?
McLennan?
Bell?
Edgell?
Heimgartner
Pedersen?
Booth?
Cunningham?
Evans?
Gaunt?
Fogg?
Moore?
Murph?
Storey?
Waite?
Hyundai?
Maverick?

Pick and choose 14 or so of that lot? No new teams have been announced have they?

Mountainstar has identified part of the problem, and I’d like to expand on it.

V8ST’s problem is that they have tried to run their season over a calendar year, just like V8SC. That might be OK in Australia but it doesn’t work here.

Circuit racing in NZ is a SUMMER sport, for obvious reasons. It makes no sense to have a ‘season’ finishing in November and the next one starting in February with a big gap over winter.

In trying to differentiate them from NZV8, V8ST have shot themselves in the foot by running a series over a calendar year.

What is the answer?

I say to V8ST:

1. Run the single-driver sprint series over the summer months along traditional lines.

2. Run two or three endurance races as a separate series. Have them as close to the Aussie V8SC endurance races as is reasonably possible in order to keep some Aussie driver involvement.

The poorer weather of late winter/spring is more suited to endurance racing. In fact, the changeable weather over a long distance race makes it more interesting.

Shorter sprint races need the sunshine and warmth of summer.

Having both V8ST and NZV8 going head-to-head over the summer will hopefully force an end to the split. They will either have to get into bed together or slug it out until the death of one of them. Either way it will stop the senseless splitting of meagre resources.

Thanks. I can't understand why they aren't included in the timetable on the V8ST site though. Go figure!

Simple answer OTI, its not a V8ST meeting its actually a Highlands park meeting.

Hey Blackpearl, Southern Man is right you know. If you front the dough, you own the show. Accept that or move on.

OTI, agreed, however a number of V8ST teams already voted with their feet because of the cost's involved in competing at Highlands and I suspect that this will be the first and last time for V8ST down here.

Teretonga is offering a much better deal all round, so if the teams do vote to come back to the South island a second time, I believe Teretonga will get the big tick.

Like a lot of things the "all new" novelty soon wears off, and to counter that you need a large welcoming mat, and I see no evidence of that down here.

I'm under the impression that the tight time-frame between the end of the 2013 season and the start of the 2014 one, was another factor impacting on some teams deciding not to go. But you're right, it's very expensive without much "bang for your buck" when several teams are struggling for funds.

I've heard some grizzles about the place too, so why is the welcome so underwhelming do you think?

Yes, elsewhere Highlands seems well received.

Since the start V8ST has seemed reluctant to go down south, but that's a choice they have to make whether they are a national championship or not.

Race 1 Murph from Andre then Ant. Eddie a DNS after spectacular engine blow in the qualifying sessions. Foggy had a major hit on the wall of the Start /finish straight all on his lonesome which ended up effecting a couple of others including Mitch who took no further part in the proceedings. Near race end Simon was another to suffer and engine failure. Sure going to be some midnight oil spent tonight.
