Working with Ray all that tme you must really know the Rover V8, I am still good friends with Gerry Cain and he still has the Rover stored away.

Agreed. Pete Thurston always pulled 6500, and it flew as you all know

Lee I know V8rob's boss and company and I would listen to him as they have been dealing and tuning these engines for many many years now. I won't mention the company as he may not want me to but it was/is one of the top Rover V8 specialists in the country, they were at one time developing a flat plane crank for the engine.

theres no way that was producing 380 bhp ever never mind out else
the manifolds are mgb v8 they need to go big time so trip to simpsons soon
i seriously think its ok now as 330 most i spoken too john reid ex tvr chairman he saw all of it an stated well he laughted at it an said your lucky too get 300 through them manifolds
i know the revs now will be ok at 6500 as i did that accidently at oulton in 4th gear john also worked out the speed i was going at oulton when i tried too change down 4th into 5th 4,000 revs over 140 mph then i slowed down into 4th
coming too the corner 3rd gear tried too change too 2nd an some keyway shaft locked under serious stress plus all the box was lose too
thats what you get for buying 2nd hand blind?
but hey am not rich
development is the key in this car i also noticed the plug leads where standard ones????
standard ones melting away???
so i opted for some seriously awesome magnicore things
truth be told what ever am going too do too this car its in serious development an thought like my dad an maurice did in 1978 in 1988 my dad wanted a bigger engine an maurice wanted too sell it too open a new door of racing a production gt car built my dennis aldred motorsport components owner............................................ 2009

The guy who built the motor in Harry originally said "Don't bother turning that motor past 8200 'cause it won't make no more power past there - but if you need to, heck it'll rev 8800 without any problem"

Still waiting for a piston..........

Dave @ Performance unlimited supply custom made JE pistons in 4 weeks from order @ less than £200 per piston including VAT, delivery and all taxes.
For a premimum they can shorten the delivery time to less than two weeks (which service I have used on a number of occasions to get back out for the next meeting after major engine damage). They have never let me down, and can copy from another piston supplied or design one to your requirements. time to try a different supplier maybe Rob?

Diamond pistons are also very good in the states turn around around 2-3 weeks, but you need a minimum of 4 pistons, the plus side is they are around £75 a piston, and they will ceramic coat them if you need it

Speaking with Pete tonight...if the Escort was only at 300bhp he reckons hes ten times the driver he thought HE was for the results and wins he got!!

Buying 2nd hand blind Lee?? No, no, you just wanted your Dads and Maurices old Escort: you only had to look in Classic Ford, Retro Car to know we raced her full chat for over ten years with no problems. The Results and Press coverage show you how she competed at the highest level, even Formula Saloons, and we walked most of them, with a heavy right foot and huge balls. 300bhp???? Rubbish. Tell the Formula Saloon boys that one and the Brands crowds and Brian Jones the commentator, when we passed most that day.
Try a stronger right foot and hang on....
The push rods were the same ones your Dad fitted years ago, and the bundles of stuff in the sump most probably came from you batting round Silverstone at the Ford Fair on 7 cylinders. Surely you heard the noise????

Just give her your biggest effort next time....I could never tame her..as far as I know....Petes the only one to win or come close to winning in her lifetime. She was a pride and joy and wont enjoy rolling around with the backenders..
Give her a pat on the roof from me. Hope she gets well soon xxxxxxx

Give them both my regards, I am sure Denis would welcome you into Classic Thunder with either of those projects so get building!

Sportmans Racing Pistons (SRP) are made and owned by the JE factory and many cross reference with the JE's but are far cheaper. Read up on them you would be amazed to see that the cheaper ones are actually better for our type of sprint racing and a lot of the JE's are really more suited to long distance events and NASCAR and cannot take the constant heat cycles the SRP's can as the alloy is different. I replaced some JE's when I grenaded an engine with SRP's as they were exactly the same weight and dims and meant I didnt have to pay for an expensive rebalance. They came in at less than £300 a set but the exchange rate was a bit better two or three years ago the JE's would have been over £700 (for 8 off).

I'm running custom pistons from CP (Carrillo Pistons) in California. One off they come out at $198 each as a special, which is double the normal rate. They were recommended to my by a number of US Chevy builders - and they know their stuff. Had I been running on leaded guzzoline, the recommendation was JE, but the experts over there say that CP's alloy is better for unleaded. Don't forget, I'm not running stock 350ci size - or 400 for that matter!!! I'm at 4.137"..... The quote was 4-5weeks as they are non-stock items, and 4-weeks has just elapsed since I ordered it. I'll ship it over myself by UPS - then I can pick up my discount instead of paying the full whack, and they handle all of the import duty and taxes.

Thanks Joss.

Popped up to Silverstone today for another run with more changes. Don't seem to have fully resolved the heat issues yet, but making headway.

Heads being scratched, datalogging pored over, and a leccy water pump with Aus spec rad on order.. Nearly there, it's quick, but not for long enough at the moment.

The CT grid looks great, very frustrating not to be out there but this one is harder than we thought..

Thanks Lee. Nothing beyond the wit of man, but we suffer a little from not having the time to invest in racing we used to, so progress is slower that's all.

Must admit to not being enthused over the Snett timetable either, qualifying sat am then nowt till Sunday afternoon. Hope Brands pans out a little more focussed on the Saturday.
