Gerben24 has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I've understood that there will be no replacement for Hopper, West will be the sole Kwakker rider in Germany.

Capirossi has declared himself fit (again).

17 riders hardly seems worth bothering with. Surely Dorna can pressure Kawasaki into running Hoffman or Jacque or someone?

It's not good that MotoGP team isn't going to have replacement, even if the rider is injured well before the weekend. In smaller classes it's more understandable.

Kallio had bad crash in testing at Brno, but hopefully he is fit to race and score some important points. Sachsenring should be good track for KTM. Last year they got 1-2 in 250cc.

And hopefully 125cc offers cracking race once again. Bradl and Cortese are very hungry for home success there. But I hope that di Meglio will score well once again, to keep in the lead for title race.

Number of Riders

I am not sure the number of riders makes that much difference. The key, imho, is the number of rider/teams that can contest the win and Motogp, in that regard, is one of the most competitive series in racing.

In any event, I had a great time in Bacelona and I really look forward to the Sachsenring. And the rain forecasted may even bring an interloper to the podium. What could be better than the sights and sounds of Motogp in the rain?

I can think of a lot of thinks that are better than a rain-race:
Driving into oncoming traffic;
Listening to Robbie Williams;
Pooring acid into my eyes...

And the list goes on. Wet weather is to make less boring F1 races, bikes require dry asphalt!

It doesn't sound very promising when you read about the news of Luis d'Antin leaving his own team: http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/sp...m-ducati-role/

However, Jamie Hacking has been confirmed to replace Hopper at Laguna. Good stuff, I think the guy's got talent!

I don't bother with 17 or whatever number of riders. I never watch anyone out of the first eight riders! MotoGP is not a Tour de France

Looks like Poggiali is injured and will not ride. Missed yesterday's qualifying and is not in the warm-up currently.

By the way, it's wet.

Good luck Casey, a bad finish from Vale and Danny and Casey would be back with a 3 way battle to the end of the season.He'd be second in the championship with Vale trailing Danny by 6 points. I know.... in my dreams ! :-)

Wet MotoGP races are hardly ever as good as dry ones. With lower grip and a higher power/weight ratio, and more naturally exciting races than Formula One, rain just complicates things. Let's hope we can at least avoid any 5-lap lotteries this time.

Agreed that MotoGP has several genuinely competitive riders and teams (less than WSBK though, especially now that Honda are supplying decent bikes to their privateers). When 15 riders can collect points, only having 17 makes it too tempting for the backmarkers to cruise and collect. It also makes the grids look pathetic. However, the biggest problem is that a lot of potentially good additions to the grid (especially privateers such as Roberts and WCM, with lifelong racing enthusiasm and no agenda to sell bikes) miss out on competing at the highest level.

Well, people are starting to wonder why we are all moaning in teh UK about losing Eurosport GP coverage.

I'll tell you why

Tobes just managed to get Vale in the commentary box for the last 10 laps of the 125 race and the guy was s total star, commenttating like a pro he was! The deal was that Tobe has commentated on every race Vale has done I think, so Vale and Brivio agreed it was a nicething to do at one race after the deal was announced that BBC would be takihg over.

Could the BBC manage that one!
Could they be as excited and silly about it as Toby and Julian?
Would they even try?

That's why we are all so sad about this great team being broken up.

And Valentino was very aware of what was going on, mentioning the whole thing at the end. Top man

Top team, thanks.

Action packed racing today, for once not ruined by the weather. I should've guessed that Pedrosa would go down - Edwards was a lot more surprising. Having Rossi, Pedrosa and Stoner so close in the championship is good.

Awesome ride by di Meglio in the 125s, how did he take so many seasons to become competitive? A shame Bradley dropped off the podium.

I also guessed that Pedrobot would probably fall off, but lets face it they were all riding a "tightrope". Stoner showed he can do it when the bikes dialed in and good on him as he paced himself perfectly.

I had to look what kind of teams he had behind him. He came to series at 15 in 2003, and first two years were quite clearly learning for him.

His best season before this was 2005, when he won race at Istanbul and broke 100-point plateau during the season. I guess that was in the same team where Dovizioso had been year before winning the title, so it was really good team. For next two years he was one of those suffering with Honda's decreased interest in lower classes.

I hope he continues well and takes the title for himself and especially for Ajo Motorsport. Ajo has had many good riders in the past, but mostly they were not experienced enough for title fight back then: Mika Kallio (1½ years), Lukas Pesek (1st year), Tomoyoshi Koyama (first 2 years). One of the past career 125cc riders, Masao Azuma had his final season with the team aswell. And although not so successful otherwise, have to mention Andrea Ballerini who won at wet Phillip Island in 2003 ahead of Azuma, bringing 1-2 for the team.

Kallio and Koyama won ROTR titles with the team.
