Marshals v Drivers Pro Karting Challenge
One of the regular NW marshals [the one who goes to the Canadian GP every year] seems to think it would be a good idea to have an end of season karting challenge. NW FF Drivers v NW Marshals.
Probably Three Sisters would be favourite on their Twin Engined Pro Karts. Gluttons for punishment you marshals. Not content with standing out in all weathers, you now appear to want humiliating on track. All it needs is an organiser [not me] |

id do it.....not organise it tho!...im pretty good at karting(yes i can go around corners)!
only problem i can see is that the average weight of the marshals team would be about 20 stone and the average age would be 60 something! however as marshals we could bend the rules and bribe the race officials and get the race drivers black flagged! |

What sort of format, I think an endurance race would be great. What does anybody else think.
If there is enough interest, I would be happy to organise it. Diz, can you sort out what sort of interest there would be from the drivers? We would need 10 teams at least and I think the cost for an endurance race is £180 per kart. Lets have some feedback.................... |

Mark,
You would have 4-6 drivers per kart making it £30-45 per driver. |

As said by Aardvark, we're up for it.
I actually did the endurance format with a few guys I used to work with some years ago. You get half an hour practice/qualifying and then a 2 hour race with re-fuelling at some point in the middle - driver changes and order of drivers are up to you. They did insist on a minimum number of karts and I can't remember what that was exactly (probably 6 karts), but we managed to get 10 karts and 4 or 5 drivers in each team. |

I have been looking at the cost of GP against Endurance at 3 sisters very recently. It is much better value with regard to track time to do an endurance. Also us lardy marshals would fair better against the F.F guys.
Just a thought, we could also have teams of 4 with 2 drivers and 2 marshals???? With regard to the original question I and Dave Hooper are definitely up for it if the date suits. I don't mind helping organize it either, however, imo it needs to be a cash up front affair to secure a place. Cheers, Steve |

If you just ask "who is up for it?" and believe the replies, you'll end up with loads of no shows. It will be interesting to see how many of the "count me ins" who have replied to this thread actually do the event. |

as Steve said, if the date suits i'll be in too. And being one of the "lesser lardy" marshals i could well be a secret weapon for a team
Enduro sounds a very good idea, 4 drivers 30 min stints each. Us marshals can do enduro easy (see EERC, 24hr 2CV, Brit GT etc) but what about those FF drivers?!!! Steve |

Well done Dean (for organising)
I have just checked my sanity certificate, I am sure it has specific exclusions about Formula Ford drivers. Though it has to be said that at least being with them will reduce the relative velocity. |

Depending on the date, count me in, deposit an' all.
Phil PS. It's my experience in Karting that a skinny bad 'un will usually beat a fat good 'un, so it boils down to who's slimmer, a Chief Observer or a 17yr old Caterham Colleger? |

Count me in too, I'll even help the marshal's cause by getting the overall weight down by pinching half of Steve And Gruff's Wednesday curry ;-)

Would love to do it but will more than likely turn up and watch instead! Perhaps I could marshal it? (Nope, not much good at that either!) or be a grid boy (Do they have grid old-farts?) Jim - realised it wouldn't cost £180 just after I posted!! |

you can count me in for marshaling it, date permitting, wouldn't want to hamper a marshals team with weight penalty can even benefit fellow marshals with judicious use of the right? coloured flags

I'm up for this and only weighing in at 9 stone 9lbs should being the average weight of the marshalls down a bit.
I also know three sisters well as I used to race in the arrive and drive series a few years ago. Ask the manager Ian there nicley and he may give a discount. |

Having won the marshals kart race at the Nurburgring kart track in June, you can count on me taking part!

Like I said before, I am quite happy to organise this. I will contact Three sisters when I am home next week and get all the details. I will post them here, and then start collecting names and teams.
Could the mods please open a hot topic for this thread so it stays at the top and keeps people looking at it???? A date in late September would be best, and probably in an evening as the track is very busy at weekends. They can get up to 20 karts for these sort of events. They also have flood lights for evening events. Diz, as you started the thread can you decide who will organise it?? |
