Help needed for hill climb drivers

Hello

Please could I have so help from any hill climb drivers out there please.

I am doing an assignment on human factors in motorsport. Looking at how a driver prepares him or herself before and during an event Physical and mentally. Also what type of training do they do and what type of food and drink they have to help improve their racing.

Any help would be grateful thank you.

Andrew

Try not to drink too much the night before. Go "grrr - you're a tiger; you can take Bunnies Leap flat" before the run. That's about it. Sorry - that wasn't very helpful, was it?

Hillclimbs

Hillclimbing is not as physically demanding as some other types of motorsport as most events only lasts a minute or so.
So extreme physical fitness is not quite so important, although the top guns all seem to be quite fit although some are not young!
I don't drink too much night before and eat calm foods, not a vindaloo curry for example!
Have a good breakfast and arrive at the venue early so there is no panic.
Prepare the car a few days before event and then check again before leaving home.
Walking the hill before the event to familiarise the track is part of the planning, even if you have been to the same venue the week before.
I think we all have little habits just before the start.
Mine are not wanting any help with harness, helmet etc, tightetning helemet strap, and harness until they hurt and then pushing all the fingers on my gloves down my fingers.
The worst thing is being red flagged and then having to sit on the start line for ages, that always results in a bad run for me as the adrenalin has built up then has nowhere to go.
hope this helps.

Actually, the "grr - you're a tiger" bit might be helpful. I don't psych myself up for racing (quite the opposite, I have to calm myself down) but for hillclimbs I have to really get the adreniline going before the start.

Thank you for the help. It will all be used in the assignment.
Hope that it went well at Loton Park over the weekend for all of you.

But still if anyone would like to help, I would be very grateful.

Thank you again.

I've found it's best to try to stay calm, too much adrenelin makes me over drive. Clear thinking and visualisation can help but most of the time I just try to breathe deep and relax. I have a bunch of nervous fiddling things I do and I'm very paranoid about my belts, so I can often be seen adjusting (tightening) them repeatedly!

Andrew ...if you were to come to the first round of the NWFF1600 championship and talk to the drivers, especially the pre 87 lot you would see what a fine bunch of highly tuned athletes they really are............not!!!

You must be at Coventry Uni then. Human Factors is the biggest load of bull on an engineering course I have ever seen. Ask Bernard how much of a fuss we kicked up last year

British Championship is at Prescott May 1/2, and is not far from Coventry. If you attend you'll find most of the top drivers will be happy to chat to you, especially at the end of practice. Don't forget to visit the marshals' pound too to see how we prepare...

There'll be a good turnout at Curborough this Sunday APR 25th, I'm sure you'll get the same quality of drivers at that meeting. Rounds of the HSA and the MID SPEED championships. Nr Lichfield.

For me its like this:
1)Ensure that car is prepared to as good as it's ever likely to be.
2)Get there early. Worst, is running around car sticking numbers on and hearing that you've been called to the start.
3)Ensure car is at running temp
4)Don't put helmet on until just 2 cars ahead in queue for start
5)Relax on startline - never feel hurried.
6)Sleep well the night before - I never have
7)Don't make excuses afterwards - it was me and me alone that stuffed the lever into reverse- not second wasn't it.
