The black box in the passenger seat area is what's known as a ballast box. Which is essentially a safe box that lead slabs (usually made in 10/15/20kg increments) are bolted into. Fairly easy to change the weight in there, but the problem comes with Pro cars in some series that have to carry a large amount. In which case some teams bolt lead slabs to the aluminium floor trays in order to reach their weight limit.

I assume they still use the Audi-favoring pit window too...
BTW, is there a source for SRO BoP updates?

You sure that's right? I thought the BMW lost a bit of weight rather than gained it.

BoP with the Audis seems a little silly bit I can't say it's completely ludicrous.

Put it this way, if this were any other GT race and we had no knowledge of BoP, would we be surprised on a grid that had:
1st Vanthoor
4th Sandstrom
5th Mies
and 12 Fassler?

I don't see too much suspect with the qualifying times, assuming they're representative: it's not like the Nurburgring and Estre being 8 seconds clear.

Bentley seem fairly hard hit unfortunately and I hope VdS have good race pace.

I wouldn't think so. The Alpina program was pretty much a toe in the water for BMW. ... now that BMW have their own car, I don't think Alpina will be back. Also they really got shafted by the BOP and were less than happy when they ended the B6 program.

I think I've been on holiday for the past 9 Spa 24 Hours, so I'm looking forward to this one.

What's the drill with cameras at night? I take it that most of night time is just a single camera on the pit-straight?

When I still followed this event there wasn't even standing camera during the night like at N24, absolutely nothing. It's probably still the same (?)

But I believe there is some of the darkness running on TV, back in the FIA GT days everything always automatically shut down at sunset and resumed at 8AM or whatever

Anyway night coverage is always crap at these events, even with the world's biggest motor race (pits-onboards repeat).

Nothing from 11pm to 8am, only RLM audio.

And the M3 made no sense as a GT2 either...

Thanks for the clarification Graham. It's a shame we won't see a Porsche 991 GT3R until 2016 at earliest. Looks like the 997 soldiers on..

LOOOLL, Anyway they have this kind of deparment of event advertising analysis, I doubt GT Open (For example) has it.

The world outside of "World Championships" is quite cold (There is quite a lot of cold out there) .

I see nothing about live streaming... must be geoblocked to the States?

edit:going deeper into the www, and yes, "stream blocked by owner" oh, well.

Get an extension for you browser called Hola. It spoofs your ip as coming from another country to allow you to see the stream.

And here's the link for streaming: http://www.blancpain-gt-series.com/live
