panoz a serious contender for 02?
it seams that the lmp1 has not yet reached the end of its development. they seemed very strong at portland, obviously, and at petit le mans. americas tracks are not quite as long as LM, could this be the year that panoz could stand a fair chance at le mans?

They won races in 2001, so why not in 2002?
Maybe even the title. |

Panoz has really been quiet about his plans. Threre was the blanket statement about the old car having potential, but that was it. They may have something really trick up their sleeves and we just don't know about it yet. He may be pulling a Tyrell on us. By that i mean, does anyone remember the six wheeler? No one outside of the team knew about that at car before the launch.
Does Don have something really trick up his sleeve? |

It would certainly be nice to see this stalwart of front-engined designs come through for a major win. He's made himself the underdog and that tends to bring the followers on in a big way...

Dick Barbour Motorsports are apparently entering a two car Panoz Mugen Team into the LMP900 class of the ALMS, including the Le Mans 24 hours 2002.
Apart from disqualification from Le Mans 2000, Dick Barbour Motorsports have been rather successfull entrants in the other classes previously. I therefore reckon the 2002 Panoz entrants will be pretty competitive. |

At the Petit Le Mans during the press conference they held on Sunday, Dr. Don said that the LMP-01 would be refined and updated for this year, and that next year when the ACO rules force a wholesale change, they would design a new car.
Judging by the performance of the Panoz LMP-07 that is being reborn as the Dick Barbour car this year, I'd say they'd better not count on that one for their race wins. |
