New GT40 At Le Mans
As an American car owner,I read Classic American Magazine which is a british mag for us Yank car owners.
There was a small feature this month about the new GT40,which finishes of by saying, and I quote, "watch out for the first GT40in this year's LeMans 24 hour race.It will be driven by British dotcom tycoon Peter Myers, who plans to run the car single handedly, aided by a lightweight 157 decibel in car entertainment system" Ive never read such ******** and an email saying so is on its way to the mag editor PM |

There'd better not be anyone in the car when the ICE starts up...155 decibels is enough to kill a human...

You are of course assuming Peter Myers is human. His planning on driving 24hrs single handed would suggest he is above that level. 155 Db should be of little problem

I was passed by an older GT40 on the way to Le Mans, my moment of glory (brief) leading a GT40 will always be a treasured memory :-)

Welcome to the forum Lawson.
In my first year we let a 1930s Bentley past, then had trouble keeping up with it! At that time the A28 was only a short dash around Alencon and we lost it at a roundabout, I had to get up to 120mph+ to catch it. It was cruising at over 90, no seat belts, not much resembling brakes, knife thin tyres et al. It got the weekend of to a really great start, so I know what you mean about leading the GT40! While travelling down a F40 pulled out of a junction to join a car or so behind us. I was getting excited waiting for it come past. I had to get past a couple of trucks. And besides I didn't want it to spoil the picture my Dad was going to take as it shot past us.
Trouble is I lost it doing this! We eventually got to a dual-carriageway with hardly any traffic on it and I could just see it. I went slower and slower waiting for it to catch up, but to no avail! Eventually we got bored! There were some great cars as we were going down. Had a little blast with a Carrera Porsche behind, but I think he was being kind to me! We also were amazed to see a few dozen Caterhams coming the other way on the way back from Le Mans. This was while having an enjoyable cruise with a French XJS. Saw quite a few GT40s (some replicas) in the car parks, but we never saw the new one... |
