1 - very few
2 - even fewer
3 - suprisingly cheap
4 - try www.gt40s.com which is the main global GT40 site

Is that site for kit cars only? Just looked at it (or is the v a kit car?)

Perhaps more interestingly - does any ten tenther race a GT40?

If so can you tell me why you all stayed away from the 6 Hour race? There where a few entered but pulled before the race. A shame as they have the absolute ability to win (as they have - altho Mr Lloyd's car was later removed from 1st place after scrutes discovered rolling rockers)

There's a section for real cars, a section for the new one plus lots of kit cars - as to your other point there is a Dutch gentleman who posts here I believe to be an owner and racer of a real one

He posts as 'fangio'

Returning to the original post my best guess is about 40 cars were built by Safir as official Mk V - I may have the exact number at home - recently 1129 & 1134 have been up for sale (I think) and there was a car from Japan on Ebay for months - reserve on one was in the region of USD 170000 - look here for 1129 : http://www.florentmoulin.com/web/veh...opfiche_2.html - my recollection is that recent sales have been under USD 250000

Thanks for the steer Jos, I had looked & have done so again, you seem to be very knowlegeable & I am new to GT40s - I am looking to research Mk V #1119, can you help, I have seen a photo on the Practical Classics site & understand the car is currently dismantled.

Any assistance much appreciated.

John - do you have any views asto why the GT40's stayed away? In fact the number of Cobra's etc this year were lower than my memory of previous years - or is my memory starting to fail me!!

Simon-Christian Glazel was due in 6hrs with Martin Stretton but was to busy winning the F1 thing at Brands.Tne other GT40's were in Carols race or being put together after Goodwood .Remember they were worked over by the sports prototypes the previous year so that to could be a reason!

Have you got Trevor Legate`s GT40 book?

It appears on eBay quite often & Amazon have it too.
I know he is a visitor to the GT40`s Forum & Club Cobra too, so ask the question there. He`s really quite approachable.
