If the rules were changed back
Theres a week until the Aussie GP, and I thought a discussion regarding the new technologies used this year to gain more Downforce would pass some time and keep us focussed on other things then a count down. If, the rules were to change back to exactly when they were two years ago - would the extra downforce technologies they used this year, be implemented under the older regime?
Can too much down force be a bad thing? Would the cars be expensionally fast now they have new ways of developing a car? Your thoughts Thoughts? |

If we still had 2003 rules on engines, aero and tyres, the cars would probably be another 3 or 4 seconds faster.

Maybe more - a lot of innovations have been found over the last 2 years. The aerodynamic additions away form the wings may not have been added however - most are only needed to compensate for what has been lost. If they had both the new bits and the old-style wings the cars would generate too much downforce and thus lose top speed.

Not necessarily - it depends what the drag is. |

I think change was essential - in the video interview on F1Racing.net JV says that the physical cornering was getting too much.
In such a competitve environment as F1 it must only be a matter of time before a driver goes beyond on-the-very-edge (physically) to making a life-threatenting mistake. A fractionally longer time in the corner means a bigger window for the driver to make a difference also - if cornering becomes not much more than a brief moment during which time it is all the driver can physically do to hold on to the car, there doesn't remain much room for overtaking and such. We are/were seriously getting to the point where teams were in danger of having to hire Robbie Robot for the 2010 season.
