You guys are so funny! So, Darren Cox was like the biggest liar and he was talking BS all the time and all of a sudden he says the same thing he has been saying for very long time, but now everyone believes him?

Andy Palmer left and interview few weeks ago and his words were so clear, but we had to go through few pages of all sorts of interpretations and try to read in between the line, so they could all look like the unfair bunch, trying to twist the rules and giving conditions, etc.

But now, today, it is all suddenly true?

If your were making a car for 2015, I'd think that you'd already have contract with suppliers, not just entering discussions. Just saying. Plenty of wiggle room in the first statement.

Cobbler and ss_collins could both be right. Check out this conspiracy theory. Lets say publicly Nissan wants everyone to think the LMP1 is happening so the ACO doesn't pull the plug on this years G56 entry. So everyone at Nissan Motorsports is headed in the direction of LMP1 in 2015 (entering discussions with suppliers doesn't me much toward development and doesn't cost much nor does 'drawing' some pretty picture in CAD), but higher up the corporate ladder there's really no intention of LMP1 in 2015. So ss_collins talks to someone who recites the party line, "oh yeah 2015 is happening." While Cobbler talks to either someone higher up in corporate that knows or someone lower who's reading between the lines, "fat chance."

If it was a serious program ala Porsche or Audi the budget should already be in place and the program started. Keep in mind this time in the 919s life Porsche was announcing a group of 200 people led by Fritz Enzinger and 6 months later a rollout of a car. If Nissan is just "entering discussions with suppliers" it seems they may be a little less serious about the program. So much less serious that pulling the plug June 15th, 2014 at 15:01pm CET doesn't seem like it would be that big of a deal.

With that said I hope Nissan pulls through and does LMP1, but one thing I've learned being a sports car fan for some time is that programs, especially in the top class, are less likely to happen than happen (see Peugeot in 2012. They already had a car built for the 2012 season and pulled the plug just 5 months before Le Mans).

All American Racers put together the original Deltawing in less than nine months from invite to testing, and that car had a lot of unusual requirements for brakes, gearboxes, etc that did not exist in the market and had to be developed just for that car.

Sure, they can't field a Le Mans winner with less than 1 1/2 years to design and develop the car, but they could still create a respectable entry.

If we want to get into time lines, the ZEOD actually took seven months, from the first line to the car rolling out. See this video where in the first few seconds Bowlby talks exactly about that:

Right now the Panoz Deltawing has a better chance at Garage 56 for this years race than the Nissan Zeod RC.

Just sayin'.

I think he meant it in terms of technical readiness. Panoz has a similar car but without a hybrid drivetrain to figure out.

It appears Panoz can't even figure out a conventional water-cooled four banger.

Mostly, that appears to be a result of a lack of commitment. Nissan, on the other hand, is giving this concept commitment.

I'd much rather see somebody try something "out there" and fail than fail executing a conventional solution.

No, I think he meant it in terms of the ongoing Panoz vs Nissan lawsuit.

Have they announced what ICE this car will be running?

PS: shouldn't this thread be in the 24 Heures du Mans sub-forum, mods?

According to RCE article the ICE is a 1.5 liter 3 cilinder turbo. See http://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3312677

1.5L?, thats a rather large volume for a 3 cylinder.
That's going to sound like an old diesel.

Why do you think that this is large? The Porsche V4 is 2.0 liter, so also 0.5 liter per cylinder.

According to BMW a 3 cylinder turbo sounds sportier than 4 cylinder.
Quote:
"In addition to the high-revving characteristics and gratifying responsiveness, the emotional sound of the engine also makes an important contribution to the driving experience. Because the frequency of the sound of a three-cylinder engine increases 50 per cent faster than that of a four-cylinder, the engine is perceived as being extremely vivacious and sporty."

The current trend in 3 cylinder engines is 1.0L, although often not turbocharged. (PSA and Toyota uses it in the 107/C1/Aygo, VAG in the Up!/CitiGO/Mii, Ford with the EcoBoost engine)
These engines often have, what BMW calls, sportier sound. Personally I think it sounds more like the diesel engines of the 90's.
But I must admit I do not know if the introduction of a turbo smoothes out the natural unbalance of the 3 cylinder, which creates this sound.

Full details on the Zeod's engine here.

Some interesting stuff.

I wonder whether it would be better for this thread to be name changed to a dedicated ZEOD RC thread - while the other can concentrate on the will they-won't they P1 talk?

That's pretty crazy to see a guy cradling an engine.

Also the switch from Motul to Total is kind of interesting. I assume that won't affect anything with Toyota?

If Nissan have oils (Total) and gas (Gazprom) putting in a bit of money that can certainly go some way to getting an LMP1 green-lit.
