More Tech Highlights

From Champweb.net:

More Technical Highlights posted on 13:12

-Races will be reduced to 1 hours and 45 minutes, as opposed to the usual 2 hour window that they were run in prior. The reason for this is to purchase a 2 hour TV time window, as opposed to a 2 1/2 hour time window.

-There will be mandatory 2-3 green flag stops for each race. However, each driver must have completed his 2-3 stops before 15 minutes is left in the race.

-Teams are only allowed to tinker with parts of the car that are visible. i.e. they can not mess with the undertray.

-Teams are allowed to share parts and pieces without a problem or a rule violation.

-Radio scrambling is NOT allowed.

-Champ Car is going to be extremely strict on the 1 block rule.

-If a driver causes an accident, he will be black-flagged.

I'm not happy that the races are being reduced to 1 hour and 45 minutes. That way too short....actually, I think 2 hours is to short!! LOL

I agree completely Dov! However in the interest of a 2 hour time slot on TV, I understand and will go along with it for now. I remember before SpeedChannel when we used to turn on the race and the cars would already be doing the warmup laps, and the footage would cut out right after the checker-flags with no driver interviews. Hopefully after this year, or next the series will be able to negotiate a 2 1/2 time slot.

I take this an indication that the TV will be "Live" as they could buy even shorter slots if the show were "in the can".

I suppose the 1h45m (2h TV slot) makes sense, but I agree with Dov. Still CART has to get some good TV this year.

It remains to be seen about the pit stops. I presume the choice of 2 or 3 pit stops will be made by officials before each race ????

The races will not be broadcasted live - bar some exceptional cases. They will be shown at 4:00 p.m. on Sundays at any time zone in the United States. It will be a fixed time slot, like a tv program.

Yes, the choice between 2 or 3 mandatory pitstops with green flag will be announced by the officials before each race. Also, none of these pitstops can take place in the last 15 minutes of the race (I mean, a team is forbidding of leaving a "green flag pitstop" for that late in the race).
