I conferm. I bought that car in 2001 in Bologne-sur-mer. It was totally disassembled, now the car has been restored except for the engine.

I gave Remis Jumez a Ralt RT3-82 in exchange for the March 772 in 2001.

Like a lot of people I speak to I wonder where all the racecars endup and it looks like you, pierpaolo have quite a few. Is it mainly F2 cars in your collection and what cars do you have? Do you know where there is a March 722 for sale?

Drifty

A 722 is not simply a 712M with BDA...
722 has sloping top front to tub to accomodate chisel nose [712M has flat top of tub at the front and different suspension geometry. Let the man buy one if he wants!

On the other hand, is that 742-BMW the ex BP France car of Paoli which had special body made by Martini? Laffite used that car in the first round of the 1974 series because his own car wasn't ready.

Hi Driftwood
I do hate these nicknames as I forgot who you really are!
We all have our opinions as to which car is the best one to have but it does depend on a lot of factors. It is of interest how the early March tubs are similar but did differ each year but I was interested in what cars Pierpaolo has in his collection and why he colected thoes particular cars. I think it is a pity that cars are in colections and not in the hands of prople who are raceing them.
I would not get rid of my F3 as I think it is great.

Hello Pierpaolo , this 772 is on of my old car ! 772 # 02 it's an ex MRS (Maublanc) car , the first drivers was Bardinon in europeen F2 trophy for only one or two races after it was the Lachaud car always powered with a BMW M-12/7 in French hillclimb , after Jean Jacques Lecorre car powered with a 1600 BDM after again a M-12/7 i bought # 02 at Lecorre the car was powered then by a Renault engine , i sold the car but i dn't forget the guy's name , after some hillclimb and broken the chassis this guy sold the chassis to Jumez ............
here is a picture at the Mont dore hillclimb race in 1984

Driftwood, the B48 was a rubbish car and I would not want to race one as they were unconpetitave although I am sure someone would want it, just to run around, I rather like the idea of winning races. I would have the car less gear box for spares but I would not want to pay more than £7000 for it. As you say 'poor F3 racer'.

Chris slant or flat does not detract from the concept of 1600 car dressed as a 2 litre
hence why no one runs them here and they want 742 onwards with bimmers

richard how wrong you are about the B48 car
i will admit i had the same perception but when you look into the 1979 season siggi stohr had many good results in his bmw powered car and the others where not flops

the 792 is no oil painting march may have built 30 of them but they where not as good as Surers c/ship win makes out

the main reason why people keep many cars in a collection is it is hassle free and cheaper than racing 1 or 2 cars
ther are many guys with 4 or 5 cars in a garage they may track day drive 2 or 3 cars maybe even race just 1 but you willf ind that at heart they love the cars know they do not have either what it takes to drive them hard or maybe the time to commit to racing or possibly the funds spare to do the whole process justice
far cheaper to buy 5 race cars and look at them than to buy 1 race car and do it properly for 4 years!

Bidochon-good to see the history of the 772#2 MRS car after Bardinon raced it
when did you rac ethe car? with renault motor?

DW/Richard, I agree with Drifty I'm afraid re the B48 - see my recent post on its thread. Be nice to see one out, and I'm sure Richard would have one near the front in Derek Bell. Talent always outs!

This really does go against the grain but I have to agree with Drifty!

Just look at the driver line-up and their realtive experience. The March works team/teams always attracted the better quality drivers (although the odd rent-a-driver slipped through). A fully restored and properly set-up B48 would probably be the match for the 792 which looks as pretty as a bulldog chewing a wasp!

Go on Richard make Drifty's day!

I had a good laugh and well done for not taking me to seariously although you will not see me in a B48 but we could start a thread on the pros and cons of the B48 over the other makes. Driftwood, we do have a lot of respect for you knowlage which is pleasing to see.

with all these race cars there where good n bad in each season and many folk get blinded by cars as being good or bad over a 10 year period which is a different matter
the march 742 is a good every day race car
the 782 is probably the best model to have in euro F2 historics
the 772 was not good as March had to revert to the 742 thin tub to make the 772P works cars to appease BMW whilst they had a kicking from Renault motors Alpine chassis for 2 season
Chevron B40/42 is a good customer car and suited many clubmen and the B48 is just a different version of these cars it was not a GE car it had aero profile sidepods that where trying to do to the same task but frankly no one knew much about ground effects at F2 3 level and even in F1 it was only 2 poss 3 teams that grasped the concept

crudely speaking the March 732 742 is the same thing
75 6 772 is the same car the 782 was its own car and all use the same engine gearbox brakes wheels and uprights
Chevron did essentially the same thing with B40 42 and 48 and the Ralt RT1 ran over 3
F2 seasons with minor mods

as you know cars "values" are often based on desirabilty and that is a cross between what won in period- which car looks "nice" and how much money was spent rebuilding the car today to race
a nice chevron B40-42 seems to be more than a 75/6/772 car The Ralt rt1 is probably on par with Chevrons but the 782 march is probably top of the list and the B48 is wrongly tarred as the runt of the litter
a wise man with gifted mechanical and driving skills would buy this model and shock the establishment and the overal cost would be less than the other "wanted" models so more ££ in the testing and developement pot

fkme ive just talked myself into rebuilding the B48 !!

Drifty, historic Euro f2 cut off is 1978 making a B48 ineligible, so this debate is pointless, and thats why dare I say it a B48 is worth less than the other cars as you can only run in DBT.

Therefore if you were looking for a car to run in DBT then the B48 would be a relatively cheap option in comparison to a 782, 772 etc.

James POPPY COCK B48 IS eligible to run cars have already raced in euro f2
the reason why there is a cut off is due to flat floor/wing cars and ground effect cars
B48 is NOT a GE car
also any car built before 1979 can race the March 79A F atlantic car raced in november 78 in ZA and is no into euro f2 atlantic class

DBT is pre 1980 and that means RT2 792 osella etc can race in DBT WITH Ground effects
