Without no doubt BAS LEINDERS
I hope he becomes the first Belgium driver after T.Boutsen who will become a F1 driver. Perhaps already test a F1 with Jaguar, because they are looking for a new testdriver!! |

Favourite drivers? I had some, but I'm afraid if I put them on the list they hadn't brillant results in the near future, because that maybe you can read underlines to know what drivers I prefer...

Bas Leinders.
Not only is he a talented driver but also friendly and modest. Probably other drivers are that too, but he's the only one I met |

Bas Leinders
Bas Leinders, indeed. A nice guy, and very talented as well. He has a lot of discipline on the track, and this is why he has been champion in every junior formula series he has competed in. 2001 could be the year he really shows his ability to win.

Leinders think he can win in Monaco. The KTR team has run always good in Monaco. The Nordic team hasn't. So he thinks he can come closer in the championship to Wilson.
The qualifiing will be the key of the race. |

Lately, Leinders has been qualifying very well, so we have reason to be optimistic. GO BAS !

You have no idea how friendly Bas Leinders, Jeffrey van Hooydonck and Marc Goossens are! They're the greatest! Always ready for a chat and a smile...
I haven't met David Saelens yet, but he doesn't look too scary to me either :-) Go Belgians! |

van Hooydonck
Although he didnt win a F-3 championship, like Bas Leinders & David Saelens, Jeffrey van Hooydonck showed excellent speed and potential in F-3000. However, it seems he could not get a sponsorship package. This is a real shame, because he certainly is as talented as half the F-3000 field. If only he had stayed at Witmeur/KTR, he and Leinders would have been an excellent team this year.

I agree with you Ickxfan, but J.Camathias brings the money to run the team. KTR can't race without his money.

As a Belgian American, Im always frustrated by the lack of sponsorship available to young Belgian racing drivers. I just hope that Jeffrey doesnt lose too much time away from the track. Monaco was dissapointing for both Saelens and Leinders, but congratulations to Webber, for a fine victory.

About KTR
KTR is one of the smaller teams on F3000, and really there isn't many info about this team.
The team started in 1997 as a Mollekens self-racing team, but during 1998 made a cooperation with Arden to run the car, with good results. In 1999 KTR broke the cooperation with Arden and run a proper team like the Equipe Nationale Belge, a "Spirit of Belgium" Witmeur-KTR team made with the cooperation of Pascal Witmeur. Mollekens hung his helmet and started to only manage the team, to promote other drivers. The drivers of the team are suite to be all Belgians. The drivers were Bas Leinders and Jeffrey van Hooydonk. On the first year, the team colours was a strange geared-car, and sometimes I thought why the sponsors agreed with this decoration, mostly when the publicities were so difficult to watch. But that's was no matter, and the team caught results only at Magny-Cours, with Jeffrey 4th and Bas 6th. During 2000, the KTR team joined German F3JB Motorsport team, engaging his racing driver (and owner?) Yves Olivier. Van Hooydonk was again in the team, and he was the only who can collect points this year. At this year, the deffinitive only KTR team recovered Leinders and run alongside him the first non-Belgian driver of the team, the Swiss driver Joel Camathias. At this time, this year is better than others with the exception of 1998, when the same Kurt Mollekens collected many points and also finished on the podium, on the early races of that year. That's all the info I know about the Belgian team, and with that report and the items some of us posted on the thread, I have some questions: When the KTR team finished the cooperation with Witmeur? Before 2000 season or before this season? What happened with the Belgian drivers who raced in JB Motorsport during 2000? I know Val Hilldebrand is on FIA SCC Champ or ALMS. Are some young Belgian drivers who now races on any F3 or any F.Renault who can be promoted on KTR team? I ask these question specially for Belgian readers. Regards, Mekola |

Spirit of Belgium
I am not sure, exactly when Pascal Witmeur & KTR parted. The two JB Motorsport drivers;Hillebrand and Nicolas Stelandre are active. Hillebrand you know about, and Stelandre is still racing for JB Motorsport, along with Tom Van Bavel, in the German F3 championship. There are two Belgians in the F-Renault eurocup; Jon Svensson and I forgot the other's name. Jerome Thiry is racing in the French formula Renault championship. Unfortunately, none of these drivers have shown much to get excited about, this year. Further down the scale in junior formulas, we have Jan Heylen in British Zetec F-Ford, and Vanina Ickx in US FF2000. Of all the drivers mentioned, the only one who the press has shown excitement about, is Jan Heylen.
