Anyone got any ideas of who will be driving for Team Portugal?
I have no idea, except Alvaro Parente

(please give him the drive, pleeeeeeeease!!)

I can't remember where I read it, but I've heard Pedro Lamy mentioned as a possible driver, with Parente and João Urbano both as possible test drivers.

Damn, I should have known that being a sportscar racing fan. I think what confused me was when I was on his website the other day u can choose English or Portugeese, I forgot Brazillian's also speak Portugeese. Ah well. How about Tiago Monterio as a possible candidate though? Hes certainly one of the faster Portugeese drivers out there. IMO.

Indeed, and the last race he drove in was FIA GT at Monza against some of the world's best drivers IMO. Lamy is far from past it, sure he might be past his peak now, but hes still a very quick peddler. IMO.

I think Alvaro should get the driver cause he's possibly one of the ONLY good Portuguese drivers in the top series.
(haha - if he does get it, hopefully he'll get me a free ticket lol)

How about Pedro Couceiro, Diogo Castro Santos or Pedro Chaves!

These guys would have given their eyes teeth for a set up like this in their day tenj years ago!!

Team Portugal A1 GP is confirmed - Pedro Lamy (repost!).

Álvaro Parente will drive the car in the second season and he will be the official Team Portugal test driver.

I don't think so. They are all good in life. Diogo Castro Santos born rich and he prefers golf to motorsport. Pedro Matos Chaves is Renault Portugal official rally driver. Pedro Couceiro is quiet busy. He races in Spanish GT Championship, has a Karting team and he is Red Bull back-up Filipe Albuquerque manager.

Of course César Campanico is Portuguese. Anyway, he hasn't funds to continue in single-seaters. Next season he is going to drive in Eurocup Mégane Trophy.

- 33 is definitely not old for a racing driver (Schuey's what - 37?!)
- reject, well, he's not the only very good driver who didn't get the best chance in F1 (Lotus in 94 until he suffered very severe injuries in a testing accident in Silverstone, back with Minardi in Hungary 95, and another season with them in 96)

Lamy is a good choice, going to be one of the older drivers in the series though at 33. Hes doing great things in the FIA GT championship at the moment though with Labre so hopefully he can be competitve, if you can drive a big heavy GT car in tempratures of up to 50c (Imola) then he should be more than capable of driving a car, that will be in contrast much less physically demanding.

Lamy's contracted to Aston Martin - I presume A1GP isn't going to get in the way of their testing and racing programmes...? He was, afterall, dragged away from Larbre Competition in order to race the DBR9 at Silverstone - I agree with pebbles, I was also at Silverstone and it was a great drive from all concerned at AM.

I do find it strange though that they pic a dedicated sportscar driver to race a single seater. I didn't know Pedro Chaves was in rallying now (presuming I've read the thread correctly!) - last time I saw him he was in a Saleen S7 in 2003 - which is a long way from rallying!

Do you not think that is totally unfair on the other drivers for these franchises when guys like adam carroll who was going to be in line for great britains drive and pedro lamy who is in line for portugals drive had done a concession of laps in a test day in a a1gp car to further developments i know it frustrates me, just thought i would like to see others thoughts . I thought it was supposed to be a level playing feild.?

Lamy won many of the competitions where he participated!Formula GM-Lotus, F3 in Germany, GT2, V8 Series, FIA GT... He was vice-Champion in F3000 immediatelly after Olivier Panis. He was unlucky in F1, as he had a terrible accident in Silverstone (testing with Lotus) breaking both legs. He came back almost one year after, but with Minardi. He was Fisichella's team-mate in a few races, and they had good fights. Lamy is the right choice for the majority of the portuguese people (me included, of course). He is a winning driver, very fast and very intelligent, at the same time! Be careful with him

He's not old!

As far as I know Adam Carroll has not driven an A1GP car. The test at Brands was in an F3000 car from Arden
