Sly Stallone was on Letterman a couple of days ago.
He was talking about his new movie 'Driven' as it's going to be called, not Champs. If anyone is interested, here's a trailer of the movie: http://members.home.net/iwiwcn/ |

No, the opening's part of SV's coverage of the USGP. Also, the end is part of a Delphi commercial(the weigh station)

I can't download movie trailers - my connection crashes halfway through them - so will have to wait until it comes on TV I guess. What's the scenario?

From what I can see -- crashes, hot-bodied women and thrill-crazed 'N Sync look-a-like drivers, cut together with plenty of shots of Sly, all set to a throbbing dance beat.
Can't wait. |

Oh, we have to go to this movie with paper bags over our heads? *Sigh*
Well, who expected more than that? |

I saw the trailer and it was ok, specially when sports illustratd model stella warren appeared, she´s hot, and the inside the car shots were awsome, I think it´s going to be a fun movie. I just wonder were there real crashes or simulated, anyway the looked very alive.

I think all of the crashes are footage of past accidents. One of the crashes they showed was Carpentier's role at turn one of Elkhart Lake.
After lookig at the trailer, I am quite disapointed. It appears to have been made for the type that watch races purely for the crashes, and have no interest in the drivers or the cars. The people attending this movie will be there purely for the crashes, and in the end Cart will not make any new fans. That is what comes across from the trailer. However, they do not always tell the full story. |

As is my understanding, there's actually a scene in the movie of two Champ cars racing head-to-head through city streets. No helmets, no crew... just... a totally unbelievable plot twist. Doesn't this remind you of the rental car scene from 'Days of Thunder'? I've read accounts from visitors to CART races this year that said the Sly team had a dummy pit area during real races for maximum effect. Real crowd, real cars, real racing, fake team. And fake victory hubbub!! The actors re-shot scenes of their driver winning, and the crew going beserk (Jumping, screaming, hugging, throwing caps, etc) at numerous points throughout the race! Must've been a sight to see! But the movie? I hope it looks better than it sounds. |

I think we saw that "Champ Cars Race Down City Streets" scene being filmed down University Avenue in the middle of the night.
Toronto has no patience with noise - they even file protests against the police helicopter - and if this ever happened in real life, before they got those turbo engines into race mode and warmed the tires enough to keep from killing themselves, they would all be under arrest. Assuming professional race pilots would be so stupid as to take seven-figure race cars that don't belong to them and run them without any protective equipment in a place where they're likely to be killed ... But then, this is a team where the driving champion drives for PacWest .... |

...yep that was University Avenue alright! Plus we had a 'fake' hubbub podium here in Toronto with a very real Max Papis finishing third, teaching the actors how to spray champagne presumably.......
