Question for Donny regulars

Received my tickets, info and car pass today. The car pass is a bit strange:-
it states... Race Support Car Park Vehicle Pass Located outside Paddock Gate 21???

What the heck does "Located Outside Paddock Gate 21" mean?

On the Marshals and Official Final Instructions it gives the normal route to Sign-On, through the paddock gate, turn right onto Melbourne Loop exit at Redgate etc... are we walking that bit?

Outside Paddock, the large paddock area (as opposed to Inside Paddock giving access to the garages) access by gate 21 (the main entrance to the paddock)

I've just been looking through the instructions and info for this meeting and it appears that my concerns about the car passes are worst than I thought.

The "Located Outside Paddock Gate 21" means outside the main paddock gate. See the HSCC Paddock parking plan.

We appear to be outside the circuit which contradicts the Officials Final instructions about driving to sign-on via the track. Or, has anyone else received a different car pass?

In my experience, when you turn up at "early doors" and say you are going to marshals' sign on then you should be able to drive into the circuit. Wearing overalls also helps.

You should also be able to drive out and park on post - let's face it, you can go around the track to do so. I think the "restriction" is really just to free up the paddock area for the nice racing cars, support people and anybody who has paid tons of pennies to be there.

We tend to get "general" passes for these sort of events. Be bold if needs be, but I think the Donington Security guys are quite savvy these days and recognise us for what we are about to do.

I've got the standard pass too....it just says "Paddock Vehicle Pass" "Donington Historic Festival". No mention of gates, inside or outside paddocks etc.

I guess you got the wrong pass so you might have to do a bit of creative blagging to get in.

Ill be surprised if anyone had to blag it to get in considering we all have final instructions saying to drive in and drive around the track..........

That will do for me, a cheeky little lap will do me just fine
Looking forward to the weekend, good quality entry as ever.
I've never had any problems getting to the sign on point though, just get waved in by the guys on the gate and pootle down the far left hand side of the tarmaced paddock.
See you all there!

Justin, just out of interest are you doing Assembly or Pits?
I've sent a text message to Fay, just waiting for an answer.

That will incur a right royal telling off from Di! Just turn right at Redgate as instructed and be a good boy!

Well it might just be my limited reading skills but I'm sure my instructions tell me to turn RIGHT onto the Melbourne hairpin. I'm pretty sure if I do that I'll end up doing almost a full lap WD and turning left at Redgate onto the infield.

I've never had the nerve to try it though .

You turn right into the assembly area from the road from the gate. You then go through the assembly area and then correct direction up the GP loop onto the start straight.

Joking apart, be aware that there are likely to be people setting up displays on the loop, so take extra care.

thebullet has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Us media have been given the same pass. That little half circle of grass on the outside of the gate is where we park. We then use the supplied ticket to walk into the paddock.

I have done this even every year and the first year we drove straight into the paddock, they didn't even check for tickets. It has become strict since.

If they try and make the marshals park outside and walk to sign-on then walk to post and walk back again at the end of day, all weekend. they will not have a meeting!!!!!

It looks like those volunteering through ES have the normal paddock permits, and those through HSCC have the "support race paddock" permits. I would hazard a guess that someone at Donington has dropped a clanger and sent a pile of the wrong ones to Fay.

Might be worth someone who's volunteered through the club getting in contact with Fay (if they haven't already) to get some clarification. Not much point everyone phoning the circuit or (worse) turning up for the meeting with a bee already in their collective bonnets!

I have already been on to the HSCC about the passes and they have advised me that these were all they were sent. They have contacted Donington and asked them to sort out any problems and let the marshals in.

If anyone has any problems then please phone me on my mobile during the weekend.

Please rest assured that I will try and sort all problems if I possibly can.

I look forward to seeing you all at the weekend.
