So can we guess the weight of the engine? Somewhere around 140-150kg?

Probably about that. Keep in mind that the gearbox will also have to be heavier so it can handle the higher torque of the engine. The whole ICE powertrain is probably more than 50kg heavier than Porsche's.

It will always trouble me because I'll never like the concept of EoT.
Diesel is the best tech, so, everybody would be forced to use it if it wasn't for this artifice of "EoT", which will never be 100% fair. The amount of "spicing up" element will vary, but it will always be there. Sometimes I wonder if WEC wouldn't be better by banning Diesel so that everybody uses Petrol and we get rid of the EoT altogether. Just my two cents, don't want to upset anyone with it |

If Peugeot hadn't disappeared in 2012, but rather just continued with the diesel-hybrid 908, I don't think the petrol "balance" wouldn't have been nearly as good as in 2007-2011 when the diesels were fully allowed to dominate. But with only Audi solely left in the diesel troops, and ACO wanting Toyota to feel welcomed, of course that didn't happen. Then Porsche only strengthening the opposition against diesel

They've also chosen to drop a gear from the 'box to save weight (and also to allow it to be shorter to improve their packaging). So this year it's only a six speed, but as they have a torquey engine it should be fine.

It's more fair now than 2012-13 when ACO were in theory able to performance balance the factory diesel-petrol anyhow, anytime they wanted, on any pretense. Now with "EoT", there's at least some mathematical and timed preset

Actually, I've been told that Audi dropped two gears (reverting to a 6 speed gearbox and not using reverse in the gearbox itself), and are using the hybrid system or something else for reverse.
Also, I don't think that we can say that the R18 has a platypus nose anymore. Narwhal might be among the more forum friendly/PG rated names for it. |

A bit sooner as normally they test between Silverstone and Spa but with Monza next weekend hosting the blancpain race, maybe they had to move the test earlier than usual

Only big changes I see are the taller "caps" above the headlights and fins that connect the pontoon fender to the mirrors.
Other than that, thus far, it looks like the presentation car from November. |

I didn't see that coming, ie, Audi testing at Monza while there is Silverstone going on...
The car looks much more ugly now. The front and rear fenders are much worse and makes the car looks horrible. |

Other than the details I pointed out, it's baslically like the car that Audi showed in Nov. At last from the front and sides. I hope for a rear shot of the car soon to see if that changed much from the Nov launch car, since I always thought that it would form the basis for a Le Mans aero package.

What I don't get is this triangular rear wing endplate. For low-drag config, I can see the benefits but I don't understand why Audi kept it at the Prologue. Toyota had a similarly guitar pick like endplate on their LM spec car but reverted back to the traditional rectangular shape for the sprint spec car.
I checked a few photos from the Prologue and Silverstone, last year wise, and I didn't see any difference between them. But considering the novelty of this 2016 car, I hope Audi comes up with a few slight modifications for their Silverstone car, to generate even more downforce. |

Anyone ever notice that the R18's mirrors seem to be inspired by what Audi Sport run on their DTM cars with suitable mounting modifications?

Nope. Even the lister wasn’t that bad. Honestly, compared to the hybrid-spec cars, the Lister LMP1 looks damn near attractive. That’s how bad these regs are. Lol as if it's the fault of the regs Audi came up with this horrid hippo of the looker, and that the Audi solely represents the aesthetic department of the class. At least in LMP1 you can choose to be beautiful or ugly, unlike in something like DP... |

I remember saying the cockpit looked pushed back this year on the R18. Jarvis seems to confirm that in this interview on motorsport.com

Yes, the Autosport article said that too. It is another reason why the gearbox has been redesigned, lighter and shorter.
