OFFICIAL PETITION TO FOXTEL/OPTUS TO CREATE A FULL TIME MOTORSPORT CHANNEL

The following is a proposal to lobby FOXTEL ,OPTUS & AUSTAR to supply Australian Motorsport fans with a 24 hr 7 day a week 365 day a year Motorsport channel. If you agree with us, that there isn’t enough Motorsport viewing available in Australia and as a fan would like to have access to more, join us by including your First and Last name, Suburb, City and whether or not you have FOXTEL, OPTUS or AUSTAR and if you would subscribe if they did have a full time basic package dedicated Motorsport channel.

I did not start this petition. retro posted it in the TV coverage thread. I think it is a very good petition. There is already over 630 signitures. I thought it needed its own thread so I have started one. I have also started a thread in another forum for this petition. Can someone make this a hot topic. It was made a hot topic in the other forum I posted it in.

I don't have Foxtel but I would subscribe if they had a 24/7 Motorsport channel.

840 Foxtel subscribers times $60 a month = $50,400 per month.. or $604,800 for a season....

Wouldnt cover the catering bill for an outside broadcast van for a year

Thats 840 people who have signed this particular petition. Foxtel claims to have approx. 1 million subscribers. While obviously the number of these who would want a 24/7 motorsport channel would not be 100%, but it would be a heap more than 840 people.

The 840 are arguably new subscribers, which is what it would take to get this off the ground. More than likely they are existing customers... which means Foxtel gets no new money coming in for putting on their motorsport channel.

Unless it becomes an option channel for all like some of the adult channels and the like... where you pay extra to see it...

Does anyone know whether it is possible to get in Australia the 24hr programs from Raceworld televised by Astra Satellite. Probably impossible but they seem to have some excellent race coverage

At the very least, as opposed to an 'Australian' 24hr channel, it would be good if Foxtel could do a deal with MotorsTV in Europe and play a straight feed of that, there is some great stuff on that (among others BTCC (whole day incl. supports) and DTM live).

Either that or get the actual Eurosport channel (rather than just the news service), they show plenty of motorsport, among others WTCC and FIA GT live.

I always thought it would be a nice idea to have a motorsports channel. I found it a bit odd that there was a dedicated Footy channel - which actually only showed AFL, and not other 'footy' sports such as Union, League, and the seemingly odd one out, football (soccer) - Especially seeing as though a motorsports channel would cover all catagories of car, bike, and boat racing.

Whilst begging Foxtel to do this isn't going to get anywhere - it may help them recognise that there is a horsepower hungry market out there.

There is a 24/7 channel for Skate Boarding, Surfing and stuff like that. There is also a horese racing channel so why is there no 24/7 Motor Sport channel?

I heard a rumour (from Sam Kekovich) that ESPN are interested in the AFL telecasts that Foxtel would be getting from 7/10 deal.

That would give them a spare channel there.

In saying that Foxtel have 7 Commonwealth Games channels running atm so having channels available isn't the problem.

BTW I'm told the skateboard channel is very popular.

Not as popular as skate boarding, I am getting old !

What/where are the skate board channel, the surfing channel ? Cant find it on my TV?

Horse racing indusatry / gambling is big money & there has been fights recently over the TV rights.
