Nissan don't want this to fail, especially with the LMP1 arriving next year. On the plus side, it certainly looks the part. Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh next week, just as I was with the DeltaWing. |

Not directly related to Nissan - but it does sound like (from listening to RLM) that there might be a few potential projects buzzing around for G56 in the future.
Hopefully something will be announced during race week. |

That's good news....Whatever appears in G56 adds interest to the race. I hope something interesting is being lined-up for next year. It is a great opportunity wasted if no-one takes advantage of it.

Tommy Erdos deserved a place in the Nissan's line up. The man can drive!

This video shows the aero flaps operating away from the chicane. (Looks pretty nimble in corners so obviously has good downforce).

is it me or am I the only one surprised thet RML did not get the whole LMP1 job???..... I hear that Dan Gurneys outfit did...and thet Cosworth are doing the engine......I thought RML would have got the whole project, they could certainly do it......I am suspecting that Ben Bowlby and RML are not bonding on the current ZEOD project, so Ben has guided Nissan back to Dan Gurney where they did the original deltawing design.....but really I'm just speculating.......am I missing something?......I must admit on this basis I am not buzzing about this announcement, heving a project spread across the globe will probably end in tears.

Would be interesting to see the Zeod have a go at this!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlxZs2-gICc If they can do this with a bike it makes you wonder what sort of battery capacity the Zeod might need to get round 37.7 miles. Electric tech is certainly advancing rapidly on all fronts. |

Apparently Nissan are still testing different battery systems in the car. Seems like a major component to potentially be changing so late.

Disastrous start to break drive shaft right at beginning of practice in a car that needs as much track time as possible. Already a lot of back-pedaling by the PR department so expectations are diminishing as time goes by. I hope they get at least one electric lap in sometime and today's qualifying produces some positive developments.

Car just hit 300 km/h on the Mulsanne in electric mode, so the speed is there (when everything else works)

I am pulling for this thing to have a good race. The drive system sounds interesting and they seem to have gone over into new terrain. Hope it sees the checker.

Regarding flap failure---same thing happens as with any other vital component failure---the cars goes where it was not intended.
A wing mount breaks, an upright fails, an a-arm mounting point gives way ... the driver has a moment and limps back to the pits. |

300 km/h
Looks like this was the 3:58 lap, done mostly on batteries:

The DeltaWing qualified 3:42.612 and achieved that on one of three laps in the first session. ZEOD best is 3:50.185, from the third session.
Disappointing. |

Give them some time, they have so many issues. This is also a much heavier car (about 170Kg of batteries and electric motors), which the car simply has to carry around as useless extra weight during ICE lap.
They are trying to get the electric lap working. I am pretty sure if it is just to get the lap time, they can combine the ICE and electric and it will get into 3:3X, but that is not the point of the exercise. They can also drop the batteries and electric motors, thus lowering the weight closer to the deltawing and do an apples-to-apples comparison - just ICE, comparable weight. I am pretty sure they will beat the 3:42 in that configuration. All these laps (very few of them according to the time tables) are with heavy use of electric power and no ICE. If the car can hit 300 km/h with 300 HP of electric motors, that thing has less drag than expected and with little bit more power is going to do very well..... Let's just give them some time. They may not even manage to sort this out for this race, so we may see the car performing much better in Japan or Brazil. |

It is still weird to watch the in-car; it seems like they are missing apexes, but it is just the situation of how narrow the front track is.
Good luck to them. |

The DeltaWing was Panoz car.
The Nissan ZEOD RC is a full-factory effort. Given the added technology, the two cars should be equal right now. Eliminate the new technology, Nissan should be seconds faster (see: Full Factory). So far Panoz and Bowlby are laughing pretty good right now. |

Also if I'm not mistaken, Bowlby is behind the ZEOD as well. |
