CHINESE LAUNCH BOOSTS A1 GRAND PRIX’S

Beijing, 6 April – The 800-year old Diaoyutai State Guest House once the
vacation home to Chinese emperors, today witnessed a momentous occasion in
Chinese sporting history as it played host to the launch of A1 Team China, the
country's first-ever motorsport team.
Celebrating the official launch of A1 Team China, the championship's largest team
representing 1.3 billion people, high government officials, foreign diplomats and
Chinese celebrities joined A1 Team China President Mr Liu Yu in the Fangfeiyuan
Hall of the Diaoyutai State Guest House as he unveiled the A1 Grand Prix race
car.
Speaking of his countries involvement in the new championship Mr Liu Yu said,
'A1 Grand Prix is a brand new concept for the world of motorsport emerging from
the revolutionary thinking of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum and spreading
throughout the world. A1 Grand Prix belongs to the whole world. As a member of
this international family, A1 Team China will strive to realise the A1 dream and
create a glorious championship.'
Welcoming A1 Team China to the championship, A1 Grand Prix Founder,
President and Chairman Sheikh Maktoum commented, 'It is a great honour to
hand over the Chinese car to 1.3 billion potential fans. I am sure the Chinese
people and industry will be backing their national team and I wish them the best of
luck in achieving their high aspirations.' He continued, 'I would like to extend my
thanks to the Chinese government and people for the warm hospitality they have
given me throughout my stay here.'
A1 Grand Prix CEO and Executive Director Tony Teixeira spoke of China's
significance to the championship, 'In announcing the Chinese team, A1 Grand Prix
has achieved a momentous milestone and we are delighted to announce that
China will be host to the final round of A1 Grand Prix's first championship

Cheers

The A1 GP China car

Here are 2 pics of the car:

No drivers nor race location were announced. Apparently Shanghai signed an exclusive contract with F1 and will not be allowed to run A1 GP.

Go China!

Like the car. It's cool to see some grafix incorporated, most of the others are looking fairly staid and super-serious.

Yup, the livery looks awesome, found my new favorite in that department...

Good to see the first 'serious' effort with sponsership etc already.

Hi Russdev and a very warm welcome to both Ten-Tenths and the A1GP Forums.

The car looks fabulous and as others have said above, it gives yet more creedence to the A1GP series.

Same here, It's great to see the A1 China entry, beautiful livery! I couldn't help thinking the car looks like a fun size Ferrari F1...

Circuit-wise, it is very likely to be in Zhuhai or even the Beijing Street circuit as proposed by the Champ Car organiser - the latter based on the revised version of the 1.5mile Goldenport Motor Park road course.

Looks like A1GP has reached a point of no-return, and I think that's great. Do the team drivers have to be citizens of that country? If so, has China got anyone on the international stage?

The drivers do have to be citizens of the country.

There are a few Chinese drivers bubbling under, including Marchy Lee and Ho Ping Tung (although he was born in the Netherlands)

The driver must hold the passport of the country that his team represents. Ho-Pin Tung will therefore not be allowed to represent China unless he can secure a Chinese passport.

Surely that won't be a real problem if China really wants him to drive .

Just been reported that the Federation of Auto Sports of China (FASC, China's ASN) will run its driver evaluation/shoot out at Zhuhai circuit in early May. Apparently only mainland Chinese driver will be considered. Therefore no Ho-Pin Tung and no Marchy Lee. Franky Cheng of McLaren is also not being considered because of his F1 link.

Yep, we are left with Jiang Teng-Yi (2004 Italian Formula Renault) and Ma Qing-Hua (2004 China Formula Campus champ) only.

Everybody please lap Team China with caution. I think we will need to put an 'L' sign on the car.

Pity the Isle of Man doesn't enter a team. It would be a great opportunity for business for the Island of course. But maybe the franchise cost is a touch expensive
