Where to marshal?

Caterham Graduates have got the reg about points for marshalling in again for 2004. I did the first race of the year at Mallory with 750MC this year (so I led the points table!), but this year there's the proviso that it has to be a BARC meeting (a bit insuler but I can see the reasons why). So where should I go marshalling - where's good or where's extra help usually needed? Cadwell sounds both...

BARC are at Cadwell Sunday 9th May & Sunday 15th August.

Alternatively, being in Macclesfield, you are close enough to Oulton. BARC meetings on 12th April (easter monday), 22/23 May (BTCC - won't be short-handed), 5th June, 24th July, or 2nd October.

Croft will never turn away willing volunteers. BARC on 15/16th May, 24/25 June (BTCC), 11/12 September, 24/25 October.

Hope this helps,
Al.

Graeme, Cadwell will make you very welcome if you decide to help us there.

Oh No! Not another clash. According to the KRC (endurance bikes) they are there on Easter Monday and the cars on 10th, Saturday.

KRC announced a change of date to the 10th some time in November!

That was from the BARC availability form that dropped through my door this morning. It is a BARC NW meeting, rather than a HQ one IIRC, but Karen should be able to confirm it (although being a Branhd Hatch circuit, expect it all to shuffle once the sale goes through)

With my racers hat on, does these mean that 2004 dates are confirmed?

So which Northern circuits struggle for marshals? I'm guessing Oulton does okay but Cadwell struggles? Sounds like Croft struggles a bit too. One obvious choice would be Silverstone Stowe, but if I'm going there, I'd be eligible to race in something which was on...

I'd take everything with a touch of caution at the moment. The sale of the BHL circuits doesn't seem to be resolved yet (or not announced anyway) so it seems unlikely that any of the clubs are in a position to confirm their dates yet. The GP date has moved once already and there now appears to be speculation that the French GP may be on after all and who knows whether that might have an effect of the current BGP date.

I'd give it another couple of weeks before assuming that dates are final.

No circuit is exactly over-run with marshals for clubbies, although Cadwell does seem to be one of the worst-off. I'd suggest Anglesey, as marshal numbers are usually on the low side, but I suspect you'll be racing at BARC's meeting there.

Two points.

1. My understanding is that if the French GP is back on the calendar (and that would only be with unanimous agreement from all the F1 teams as there are already 17 races next year) that it would be slotted in towards the end of the year.

2. It is unlikely that any news of the purchaser of BHL circuits will now be known before early January 2004. That means the whole calendar is subject to change give BHL covers 4 circuits.

Graeme - Its a pity you cannot get your points via 750MC this year but that doesn't mean you cant marshal for clubs other than BARC. You wont get any points with us but its still a fun activity and you will be welcomed by all clubs.
If you feel the need to only support BARC, how about a weekend at Snetterton for the 24 hour 2CV race 18-20 June. Bring a tent?

Graeme, there are BARC meetings at Mallory next year too. As you have already marshalled Mallory though, you might prefer to go somewhere different.
