Modified Live..Oulton Park
I'd just like to thank all the Marshals for their hard work on Saturday, it really is appreciated and I can't imagine how strange it must look for you seeing cars running the wrong way on circuit.
I'd be grateful for any feedback that would make your day easier and if someone could pass on my thanks again to Dave in Race Control (or let me know his email) as he made a stressful day easier. Once again thanks for all your hard work. Regards, Al. Last edited by Stephen Green; 5 May 2009 at 10:05. |

I would like to add my thanks to those of Startline Al.
There was a good deal of multi-tasking and in some cases doubling up of duties. Well done to one & all Regards Gordon Knight Chief Flag. |

without sounding bad, but being honest. it was nice seeing some of the seriously modified stuff being driven really hard but i still cant see the point of the time attack, it seems a bit like a very expensive timed trackday. other than that, the ffords were good, the drifting was awesome and the demos, especially the trucks were brilliant. to top it off as always some crackin guys on post. cheers for a good and very different day.

A different day, but a little confused with the organisation and having 3, hour long breaks for those on non- drifting sections of the track was taking marshals wishes for a decent lunch-break a bit far...
One thing that I think was badly missed was a briefing on safety regarding the cars that were out there. They are considerably different to normal race/sprint cars. A lot of them were running extremely high boost and Nitrous oxide, yet had no external electric pulls, and I am not sure how many had extinguishers. Certain classes of MSA sprint cars dont have them either, but they tend to be slower classes, plus sprints dont allow such numbers on track at the same time. The comeing-together at island resulted in two full lifts, did either car had an obvious way of turning them off? A fuel pump still running and a turbo that hot is not a great combination. I am not saying the event should change, just that the Marshals should get a brief when things are different to the norm, just like when we get Methanol powered stuff on circuit. Some good valid points there Ian.
You have to bear in mind that this was the first time we had run such a day. When Time Attack was here last year it was in effect just a track day, we have all learned from this latest event. As you know Time Attack is not sanctioned by the MSA., so I do not know who the appropriate safety authority is who might take on board your comments about pull switches, on-board fire extinguishers etc. The Time Attack part of the day operated under the MSV banner so if Time Attack come again next year we can perhaps take up these issues with them. Regards Gordon Knight |

Dave Cleaveley did a great job up in control!
I think the organisers need to sort just who is and is not allowed in the pits! We had so many people on the pit wall that the teams could not signal to their cars. And there were children everywhere...... |

Club Pro and Pro cars, who are the only ones to run Nitrous all have a fully plumbed in extinguisher system and external electrical pulls, the club cars have to carry a handheld extinguisher and do not have to have external cut offs.
I agree about the people in pit lane and we need to resolve the problem by discussing it with MSV. I do think the number of spectators caught everyone on the hop, but it was great to see so many people in these difficult times. I understood Glen gave a briefing, but I could be wrong about that. Thanks for all the feedback, its much appreciated. Regards, Al. |
