Renault World Series Round 6 Donington

So the event we have all been looking forward too

I will be there both days, hoping for some great action and to get some great photo's. Shame Vettel is not there, but o well.

Pre Event News

According to the latest rumors apprended by Italiaracing, Fortec Racing is intentioned to line-up Yelmer Buurman at Donington, since Richard Philippe won't be back on the British racetrack.

Not too sure what the weather forecast is, but with it being donny, i expect rain at some point

My tip, Hanley for 1 and Parente for another (not a hard decision by me i know)

Care to add anyone? Im always interested in your points, especially yours WSR FAN

cheers

Quick question as well. Anyone know if any older drivers might turn up to do the demonstrations? Also i'm guessing Piquet will be on standby at Monza, so who will test the Renault F1 car? Just for my curiosity so i can take a photo to get signed maybe.

Thanks James

I'm also going this weekend, although I can only make one of the days (not sure which one yet).

Apparently Philippe has broken the same hand he injured at Monza earlier this year, so that's why they've brought in Buurman (who of course got Fortec's first points back at the Nurburgring). And perhaps not surprising, Jaap van Lagen has lost his Eurointernational seat after causing an estimated €53,000 worth of damage in his qualifying accident at Spa. Antonio Ferrari was quoted in Autosport as saying "We want someone who isn't going to cause any more damage"!

As for this weekend, with the way he's been performing over the last few rounds I'm also tipping Hanley to finally get his first win of the season (wouldn't that just be great in front of his home fans). It would also be nice to see Michael Ammermuller, and Carlin for that matter, closer to the front than they were at Spa. And for Gods sake, PLEASE let Clivio Piccione have a decent run for once...

At the moment, the weather forecast doesn't look too bad:

I was going to champion the cause of the Brits but at last years event they had something of a shocker. Just goes to show that innate circuit knowledge doesn't count for a lot in this series!

Having said that, Hanley is genuinely at the front everywhere this year and James Walker seems to improve every meeting?

I'll be looking out for how Ammermuller goes as well, needs to restake his claim for a return to GP2 or something for next year.

Also be good to see if Duran can notch up a couple of good scores?

Timetable etc. at http://www.worldseriesbyrenault.com/donington/uk/ .

(Pity they could not get the image of the Union flag reasonably correct!)

The Friday events (untimed practice) may well be open to the public as they are listed on the Donington website. (But I'd check before making the trip!)

Where did Jaap exactly go off at Spa?

It's a shame though. He's been the dark horse of WSBR so far. Trying time and time again, then stepping down into the Megane's and dominating that, then making a comeback with various teams. He really deserves the big break and I hope he gets it (whether it's in Porsche or World Series or whatever).

Just had my final instructions today for the weekend.
got tickets for the sat/sun,but was told would have to use the track pass to gain access on the friday.

Been looking forward to spending 3 days of marshalling Renaults.

Just hope i get time to get around in between sessions

From italiaracing.net

At Eurointernational, Julian Theobald is taking the vacant seat for the rest of the season.

And there was an article earlier today about Luis Razia being in at GD for the next two rounds, and after that Cecotto jr. taking his place for the final two. Strangely, it is gone now!

Van Lagen would be at Porsche Supercup this weekend anyway - he's actually doing pretty well in that. Theobald could be useful - did himself a bit of justice in Euroseries last year.

My prediction? Hanley, Parente, Pavlovic and - as my wildcard - Baguette. Kimball, Buurman and Duran have also raced at Donny in Brit F3 before so could be worth a watch too.

Walker should be worth a watch too. He's raced at Donny loads of times over the past few years, so if there is any event when he should get a top 6 finish this year, this is it. Plus, Fortec will have circuit knowledge which they don't at most weekends in WSR.

It's just an observation on one of the Brits on their home weekend in WSR, no need to start talking about betting or anything.

Parente, Baguette, Fauzy - not a surprise top 3 IMO. Pippa Mann looks a bit more useful than usual in 15th though.

Seventh and second for Moreau today - pretty impressive stuff considering he broke his hand at Spa less than three weeks ago!

Looking good for Parente so far, I just hope he can keep this going throughout the entire weekend. It's also great to see the Top 17 covered by less than a second

It certainly is a good job you all took my advice, and didn't put any money on James Walker....

It doesn't matter how many times youv'e driven a circuit, if you haven't got it, you haven't got it!

Surprised Buurman is in front of Walker, I know it's only collective testing but still, good performance from Yelmer. Last year in F3 at Donington Walker qualified on the front row with Buurman 9th!

Grid top 10:

Parente, Fauzy, Barba, Jousse, Baguette, Bonanomi, Buurman, Ammermuller, Molina, Nunez.

Hanley a shocking 26th, Walker only 2 better. What is it about Brits at the home WSR meeting??

Last year Hanley, Kerr and Kane had nightmares as well.
