Renaults

What do you souls think of the new big Renaults, Avantime and Vel Satis?

I was originally very anti, but having seen plenty in France, though not driven either, I now think they're pretty good. They've retreated from the battle with German and Swedish luxury cars, and produced something that the others wouldn't dare.

They've definitely got something ever-so-slightly wrong on the Vel Satis though. If you see pics of the original showcar, it just hangs together a whole lot better somehow.

First of all it's great that a big manufacturer like Renault is prepared to take a risk and bring mould-breaking cars to the market. The styling features of the Vel Satis are good, it's just that it seems to have rather strange proportions and is too slab sided. Give it the Minisprint treatment and it would look fine. God only knows what the Avantime is supposed to be. Can you imagine how those doors will drop after a few years?

Same story with Renaults Love them or Hate them (I'm on the love side). That being said people sooner or later surrender to the advantages of those cars. Look at what happened with the Renault Twingo. A laughing stock once it was released. Now it seems that every auto manufacturer is trying to make a twingo-type car (i.e. Mercedes A class). And let's not forget the story of the Espace.....

BTW, love the new Mégane. The old one was just not "controversial".

At first I hated the Mégane. Now I love it. This was confirmed when I saw one in the flesh today - stunning motor car. Remeber when people said the Focus looked "weird"??
