Stuart J should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
List 1B tyres

Evening all, I will be running my usual classic Porsche (231 bhp, 1100kgs) this year in a series where any list 1B tyre is acceptable. Tyre size available to fit my 8" and 9" x 16" wheels appears to be limited - to Michelin PSC or Kumho V70A (or conceivably Toyo R888). I fancy the Kumhos, which gets good reviews............but List 1B actually shows only the Kumho Ecsta V700, and when I rang the MSA to check, they said the V70A wouldn't be valid - but as far as I can see, the V70A has superceded the V700.

Anyone able to confirm V70A is legit?

Many thanks,

Stuart

Not sure why you need to ask the question if the MSA has already said no. However they are still produced and are still on the Kumho website so you shouldnt have to much trouble getting them.
The main thing is if you go for V70A which are not listed you will be excluded, I have seen a lot of people running R888 on high power cars and they seem to think they work well.

ring Kumhos motorsport dept in Bridnorth, shropshire. im pretty sure they will tell you that the V70A and V700 are one and the same. i use them and my older tyres said V70 on the sidewall but the current ones say V700. i suspect its just a re-bading at Kumhos end in which case the latest designation is V700. That said they are commonly known, and still advertised by most, as V70As.

This is worth a try but dont forget that if they are not listed within 1B they wont be legal for your class, even if you get a letter from Kumho saying they are equivalents.

V700 and V70A are one and the same tyre. You buy them as 'V70A' and they come with V700 on the side wall.

Go figure.

Well if they have V700 on im not sure what the original problem was!!!!! Just make sure that they do have both on though as if they only have V70A then they are not list 1B (at least not this year)

I bought some from Demon Tweeks but I now have to run on Toyo 888's and they are better value with the championship discount. Also I was running them on 16inch rims (265 section tyre) medium hardness and they wore down very quickly, quite grippy but I would have been better going with the harder ones on a heavy powerful car as advised by another racer who has used them. I did try them on my older car at Snet and they seemed to suit that better and went very well.

On the subject of not neccessarily being listed in the 2008 Blue Book as I recollect if they were previously in there then they are OK. We had this with falken tyres in the ModProds when falken pulled out and did not reapply for listing but we could still use the covers to race.
