Well they are dry break fuel receptacles capable of pitstop refuel. As fitted to all formula and sports cars including the previous A1GP cars. Nothing unusual.

Oh OK. Just exposed my total lack of any knowledge about race car engineering

Don't know about that. It doesn't seem to have the high pitched sound. In fact it sounds worse than the old car. Hope it's down to noise emission restrictions at the test circuit. I hope it sounds better than the Zytek during official testing end August

I was a huge fan of the old engine, so I must admit i'm a tad underwhelmed at present, though i'm sure that will change. The shriek of the Zytek was a fantastic sound. Has it still got the 'fireworks' gearbox, during downshifts?

I've heard the Ferrari F430 upclose and it's a similar noise and 'live' the noise is far more impressive, as i'm hoping will be the case when i pop down to Silverstone in 2 months...

Yes the 'fireworks' sound effects of the Zytek were distinctive. I'm sure fans loved it. If A1GP wanted to replicate that in the new car it may be possible. Some adjustments in the ECU mapping should do the trick.

Interestingly one of Malaysia's drivers expressed that he didn't like the 'popping' nature of the Zyteks

The new engine sounds different to regular single seater engines... more low and grunty like a GT engine... wait, it it a GT engine .

In all seriousness, I think it sounds distinctive... and, to my ears, it sounds like a 1980s F1 car.

Yeah it really is actually a GT engine, based on the Ferrari GT2 class engine anyway. I do hope soon ferrari will provide a noisier, lighter V8(V12 is fine too ) making 750hp. AT least matching the Super League cars in power.. with the reliability of course. There is something about using V12s in single seaters thats special. It's so rare these days

^ Yep, I know it's a GT engine... I have seen F430's in person (the engine of which is the base of the new A1GP engine) and they've sounded really cool, which is why I like the A1GP engine sound (because I've heard a version of that engine in person).

About the V12s and 750bhp etc... let's wait a few years for that eh? Let's first see how the series gets on with 600 or so horses before making the cars even quicker... remember, it is a "World Cup" bringing in drivers from all over the world... so it might be hard to find drivers of the quality required from some of the countries they're targeting.

Sad that I'm not a fan of the exhaust note from Ferrari road cars. They tend to sound like empty vessels. I prefer the deeper note of Lamborginis The Lamborghini Murcie R-GT though is high pitched and is just sweet

Anyway lets hope that the note from the new A1GP car is better than the old one on race day.

First batch of the new cars have been delivered to A1GP HQ... with just over a month and a half to go before the first test that's not long to go to make sure the cars are all prepared!

Any idea how many cars are in this first batch? Or when the teams get to have a look over them?

Interesting that Patrick Friesacher is the first driver to experience the new car after having driven the old one.

Also good to know that Marc Gene is involved.

Comments from Marc Gene that it is an exciting car to drive and will enable close racing. Let's hope so.

Patrick Friesacher did one race for Team Austria in season one, when the hopeless Mathias Lauda was unavailable. It was the only time all season that Austria were competitive. Friesacher is a talent wasted.

I agree with you there.. with Friesacher, they could have been fighting for the top 10 I think.. with Lauda, they struggled not to be last. ( As Lauda is doing now in the DTM )

At least he wasn't last while Christian Jones was in the Australian car.

On the A1 site there's a pic of the slightly revised bodywork for car to allow bigger area for sponsors.

A1GP Chief Commercial Officer Scott Hollingsworth: "With all the cars being identical we have flexibility to make sure we deliver our promises to both our sponsors and fans. This enlarged engine cover allows a much higher profile position, while delivering the on track performance we demand. We are working hard to make sure our commercial partners get the most out of their association with A1GP."
So A1GP have done the opposite of F1. Sir Frank Williams recently said that the area for sponsors logos will be reduced by up to 25% from 2009, thanks to new aerodynamic regulations resulting in smaller wings.

Importantly it still looks like an A1GP car. I was worried it may just look like an F1 clone, but im glad to say it has still maintained some of its uniqueness aesthetically.

Just hope the racing is as good, if not better than the first 3 seasons.
