Who's gonna win? If I've worked out the droped scores correctly I reckon Scottie is effectively 2 points behind Martin. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. See y'all later. |

Points needed to win the championship
I think Martin needs 5 points this weekend, or a sixth place with a record to get the hattrick....
......regardless of what Scott can do. The championship favours wins (quite rightly!) over consistency of points per round. Therefore the winner is..... Assuming Paul or Martin don't bin the car on Saturday entertaining the paying public. Martin DOES deserve it, Scott has run him so close, Martin has really had to fight for this one after problems earlier in the season. What great gentlemen opponents. What great strenghts Paul Ranson and Roger Moran have been to their teammates, etc. What a magnificent season. See you later tonight. McB |

Therefore the most Scott can get out of the two rounds is SEVEN Points (two wins plus two bonus points for breaking the hill record minus those 15 Points). Whereas Martin gets the full score from the first round so all that he needs is SIX Points to be certain of the title. Therefore I would have thought that in real terms Martin has a NINE Point advantage. However I could be wrong (I usually am!). |

And just to end the debate, Martin takes the win with another hill record in less than perfect conditions. Awesome. Can't argue with that. Many congratulations to both for a brilliant season's racing, and for the conduct in which it has taken place. Many branches of the sport could learn an awful lot from these two. Gentelmanly, friendly and approachable. True sportsmen. Graeme didn't do badly either. 18 months away, a car that was only partially effective last time out and he's in the mid 23s. Fantastic stuff. Shame not to have that engine next year. What price a 3-way battle at the top? Hope so. |

I think Scott 'lost' what little hope he had of taking his first championship back at Doune when Martin took the lead. He was then dealt a body-blow when Groovey set a new hill record which meant Scott would be second no matter what he did! As for next year, many of the marshals missed the Prize Presentation as they were still coming down off the hill - I thought there was too much of a rush to get it over & done with! In his speech Martin Groves hinted that he might not be back in 2008, although he was grinning when he said it! I thoroughly enjoyed my VERY long day out at Shelsley and was particularly pleased to see so many wonderful old cars and their equally wonderful old drivers! Top marks to the MAC for organising such a fantastic array and also for getting the hill back into pristine condition. Finally best wishes to John Chalmers who was very cheery after a brush with the Recticel and a trip into the field! |
