ask at Demon Tweeks, one of the Minshaws had a golf in 1989 in touring car championship. That particular car was sold to classic autosport in Scotland early this year. They will be able to help.

Alan Minshaw raced Golfs in the BTCC for several years- originally Mk1's in the early 80's, but I'm pretty sure he had the first Mk2 to appear in the BTCC- it made a couple of appearances in 1985, but wasn't competitive, as because of it's 1.8-litre engine it had to run in the same 1600-2500cc class as the Alfa GTV6's and Escort RS Turbos (at that time the 16-valve GTI wasn't yet homologated either...) He moved on to a Chris Hodgetts-run Toyota Corolla, but came back with a Golf when the class structure was revised to include a 1600-2-litre class in 1987. He continued to run a Golf (and a BMW M3) in 1988/9. I'd have to look it up to be sure, but I think present-day BTCC racer James Kaye had one of his first BTCC starts in Minshaw's Golf during 1988.

Alan Minshaw entered the Golf with us in the then Falken (now Toyo)Tyres Modified Production Saloon Car Championship for a couple of rounds in the early 90's.

Well done KA that just about sums up our golf exploits in touring cars well also had a good time in 86-89 in production saloons with the 16v 1800 mk2.

The Mk1 that Dad(Alan) came second to Steve Soper in the 1983 tricentrol touring car series was the same car that John Morris had driven thr previous year.

Hi

Have got quite a few photos of the the John Morris (My Dad) MK 1 Golf GTI which Alan Minshaw bought.
I will dig some out, scan and send you some images if you PM me your e mail.
The car was the ex Akai Golf prepared by GTI engineering and driven by Richard Lloyd.
