N.A-D.R should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Formula Renault UK 2012 - Cancelled!

I read in a kart magazine that Thai kart driver Tanart Sathienthirakul is looking at racing in FR UK for 2012. Hes in the Team Lotus driver development program and is considered to be the best to come out of Thailand since Prince Bira. Hes been doing KF2 in Europe and hes considering KF1 but is also doing formula car testing later this year. I've got Thailand background so hes been one i've been following and hes been tearing up the KF2 in Europe which you see no Asian karters can do. Hes one to possibly consider in the future if he can be treated correctly.

This week's Autosport reports that Manor have pulled out of F.Renault UK to race in the Eurocup in a tie-up with MP Motorsport. Seriously bad news for the series.

On the plus side, Roly Vincini plans to enter a team as GP1 Engineering (let's hope he doesn't get in trouble with Bernie over that name)...
http://www.italiaracing.net/notizia.asp?id=34274&cat=38

Are they still planning to have a kind of class B (or whatever name they were proposing) for the old Tatuus? And when is the calendar coming out?!

The calander is out - cant find it published online so you can look at it in our 2012 presentation:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15833062/RPD...20Brochure.pdf

For the class B/Formula Renault UK Jnr you can also see some details in the same document. It will be Tatuus FR2000 in the latest spec without restrictors and open gear ratios - the same spec as when they last run in FRUK.

The issue is (as I think you have found) that SRO have not announsed that it is going ahead, any details or even its definate existance - as a result we are trying to sell a package to people enquiring to BARC, and the budget is somewhat more obiously. (23 rounds vs 14, 4 pre season tests vs 1, more tyres, hospitality included etc).

It will be a great series if it gets going with 5+ cars as it could offer a lot for the money - TV coverage, lots of races, high profile events etc in a more reliable car than the Berazzi one. Lets see...

Thanks for that.

Terrible work on SRO's part not to have released a calendar or news of the format yet... we're almost in February for flip's sake. The last I saw was a few mentions of a possible junior class in Autosport. Hope it does go ahead and we get a respectable combined grid this year.

Although the TV coverage is restricted to those races on the TOCA package, not the British GT supports at Silverstone, and even then only to the races which take place on Sunday, not the Saturday races. I'd estimate the TV coverage will be reduced by between a third and half by the new format.

But that has always been the case. Races that take place on Sunday are the only ones ever on, and the British GT round will be on TV just not on ITV. Out of 24 races, 14 will be live on ITV4 and 2 will be on motors TV and a yet undecided Sky channel. Its not 100% but its as good as it gets at this level by a long way - and better than even GP2 coverage.

Just out of interest, have you ever had a value (to a sponsor) put on that TV coverage? Just wondered how much it helps drivers get funding.

The only way you can directly value the coverage is to commission a company to track the sponsor logo through the coverage during the season (like matrix for example). I believe a BTCC team has done this in the past.

TV coverage doesn't directly get driver funding but adds to the prestige of the series. If you are a front runner then clearly you willg et the bult of the coverage which has a value for sponsors. Equally to could race a whole season and never be seen on TV at all!

It would be 14 if there were two Sunday races at each event. But that won't happen.
At Oulton Park for example the timetable would be too tight, and that may also be the case at Thruxton.

Fortec have announced they will be running a 4 car FRUK team with Jake Dennis, Shahaan engineer, Dan De Zille & Josh Hill driving, plus they will be entering their Eurocup team in non clashing races.

The SRO planned 'class b' for the older tatus cars won't be happening, but there will be a six race 'Renault GP Cup' class for registered BARC Renault runners at the last 3 FRUK meetings.

there was an interesting contrast between the first official FRUK test at Donington Park on Thursday with just 6 cars running, with the general test at Rockingham on Friday, with at about 12 BARC cars running from 7 different teams.

The BARC championship and the Tatus cars do seem to fill the role of a good entry level series for drivers and teams, it is also obvious that there is a much better working relationship between the organisers and teams than in the FRUK series.

Interesting that you say that and I am inclined to agree with you here. Unfortunately the timing of the release of the new car and then the change of championship organiser from Grovewood to SRO seems to have co-incided with the championships downturn in fortunes and dwindling grid numbers.

The Pro-Tyre BARC Championship by contrast looks to be very healthy. I was at Silverstone Friday a week ago and there probably about 15-16 BARC cars testing and I understand many of these drivers have already confirmed deals.

Incidently can't find a thread on here for BARC FR - thought it might be in the club racing section or has one not been started?

i don't think one's been started but feel free to start it here. frenault barc seems to be managed very sensibly - i think the reasonably good field shows that.

the eurocup simply seems like better value too. whats the budget difference?

When we were talking to teams at the beginning of last year for Scott budgets were generally the same and in some cases lower in the Euro Series than the UK championship & of course there is a decent prize at the end of it. That have must have contributed to a defection of runners from the UK to Europe?

has to be, it's value for money isn't it? the uk circuits might have value in teaching drivers how to handle different types of layouts, speeds, track surface, bumps etc but the eurocup has f1 relevance, an insanely huge field, bums on seats, and a really good event.

what is interesting is that alternative series like the alps one aren't suffering in terms of grid sizes in the same way that the uk series is. they don't have the same claims to partial live tv coverage or higher profile national events like the uk series does with the btcc, but they still seem to get the cars on the grid.

is part of it down to the fact that single national series like the uk one don't really exist any more, and the trend towards group series like the alps and the northern european variant are more sustainable for the organisers? ok, so it's not easy for the uk series to merge with any others simply for geographical reasons - we've got this channel thing, and crossing that every time costs money. but it can't just be that surely?

Simply put Alps and NEC are very good value for money. Regarding FR UK vs Eurocup budgets, don't forget that VAT doesn't apply under some circumstances for those in the Eurozone so Eurocup ends up cheaper

Seen a quote on F/B from a Team Owner saying that UK Series has been canned this year - any confirmation anyone?

Gutted for Mark Burdett. First year he has a good chance of winning the championship and 2 drivers signed from the start and they pull the plug.

Damn. I guess the failed attempt to poach the FR BARC field (which understandably BARC were averse to) was the last chance to have a series this year. Guess I will be rethinking going to Thruxton then. Unbelievable how quickly a once very healthy series can decline.

This is what happens when you introduce a new (unnecessary) and expensive car during a recession. I'm completely surprised that this has folded. I can hardly imagine Alan Gow would've been impressed having six cars circulating live on ITV4 all season.

Surely this has to be a warning to Ford and what could very possibly happen in British Formula Ford either this season or next?

Perhaps this will now focus minds at the MSA and elsewhere on the absurd costs necessary to be involved in UK single seater motorsport even at national level?

Could be a good thing, long overdue.
