Good luck ..... are you off to the Old Timer meeting?
I use the 'southern' route from Calais, via Dunkirk, Lille, Namur, Liege and then on past Spa. It's all motorway, avoids Brussels, takes the same time, and drives the Sat Nav crazy until I'm past Charleroi. Depart Calais by 13.00 hrs to get beyond Liege before rush hour build up, especially on a Friday.

That's the route I have used on many occasions, and fully recommend it. Avoid the Brussels ring road at any cost (although I will be using it tomorrow as no alternative).

The route I usually take, just on the fact that it seems a 'nicer' way to go.
E40 is a better road though, the 'short' route past Zolder seems to take forever, only used when I have to!!

E42-satnav,I find quite amusing! The 'voice' takes forever to make up her mind as to whether I should be on the right or left of the 42,totally ignores my suggestions of her bovine parentage and being a little silly.

many thanks for the tips - we went past Spa there and back and it was surprisingly painless! Left Nurgurgring about 4.30pm yesterday afternoon and was in Fulham at 10pm including two fuel stops. Great roads and saw quite a few brits leaving Spa from the 24 hour!
Stayed at the Dorint with a track facing room and was impressed with the whole set up - great shame it is all in financial trouble and hope the Germans let Bernie off his little indiscretion in exchange for him buying it!!
