Entrylist Round 8.
As expected, the SLS-AMG is making its debut, but there are also some new Corvettes in the race, notably one for FIA-GT3-champ Christian Hohenadel fielded with assistance of Callaway Competition. |

Now that the Vipers are nearly at the edge of extinction (unless 2012 proves otherwise), I at least hope those Corvettes make their way to the N24! We had far too few vettes @ this year's race.

If its SRO sanctioned what is the point, they will be weighted down and choked out of competitiveness. The C6 gets ballast and is one of two marques restricted in GT4; the GT1 cars were not even in the top 10 in overall speed in the last race but are running 40kg over their minimum weight. In the last GT3 race if it wasn’t for great strategy (saving the tires) , patience and a screw up by the other teams Hohenadel and Keliwitz wouldn’t have been close to winning that race, they were not in the top 7 in overall speed (very apparent on the long straight). Until the SRO stops punishing teams for driving Corvettes, why enter and be just more grid fodder?

Why the heck is the SLS not racing in SP9, the class for GT3-cars? It's entered in E1-XP, I´m smelling shenanigans.
Crossing fingers for a first-lap retirement.. |

The Corvette was suppossedly blindingly fast during recent testing, and while SRO-regs apply for the GT3-class at the Ring, there are sometimes slight differences or waivers given by the VLN-organisation - and then, you can't really compare the Ring to any other track anyway, let's wait and see how this turns out before we start whining, shall we? I think Callaway Comp. know very well what they are doing there.
As for the SLS: The car isn't homologated for GT3 as of now and won't be fully until the BoP-tests early next year, that's why they can't race in SP9. |

What I would like to know if it is in fact a GT3, how did they get away with all the body changes? Maybe that’s why they are running in that class for now. I would also like to know what weight /restrictor BOP they are starting with; anybody know? Mercedes-Benz and AMG unveil SLS GT3 customer race car Looks more like a GT1 car to me. |

In E1XP, AMG can race the car at pretty much every way they want to, but there's little glory in winning a VLN round and so I guess they'll run with a realistic weight and engine performance, i.e. one that is close to what they expect to get in GT3 next year. Afterall, this is only a first test run! |

"Unfortunately the new balance of performance of the Corvette seams not to be very objective", Callaway Competition boss Ernst Wöhr says. "It looks like the organisers only took the brilliant performance of Christian and Daniel into account, and therefore took the whole Corvette brand in kin liability. I hope our two championship contenders will have two good races and will be able to clinch the title already this weekend.” Like I said, if the other teams ran a mistake free race Hohenadel/Keilwitz don’t see the podium. So I guess everyone will be running extractor hoods and dive planes next year, I thought GT3 was suppose to stay close to their road going counterparts, the SLS should be in GT1. |

Isn't there a pair of dive planes on the 997 GT3-R's nose?

Do the GT3 cars running VLN race at FIA GT3 weights and restrictions or do VLN Organisers determine that? I'm guessing the VLN would, its their championship and all.

FIA GT3 is the baseline - but as I said there are sometimes waivers and some areas that are regulated in the FIA series are free in VLN (tires, for once). But since this is the first time we see a GT3-Vette in VLN, I am pretty sure they will run in full FIA-spec.

Qualifying-Results:
1. #86 Hohenadel/Arnold (Corvette Z06 GT3) 9:34.226 2. #88 Luhr / Westbrook (Porsche 911 GT3 R 997) 9:42.264 3. #738 Schneider / Jäger (Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3) 9:42.493 4. #107 Abbelen / Schmitz (Porsche 911 GT3) 9:50.551 5. #110 Weiss / Jacobs / Kainz (Porsche 911 GT3 R 997) 9:55.007 6. #114 Dumas / Klasen (Porsche 911 GT3 R 997) 10:02.978 7. #672 Dzikevic / Botor / Scharmach (Porsche 911 GT3 Cup) 10:03.433 8. #99 Stippler / Basseng (Audi R8 LMS) 10:04.183 9. #104 Illbruck / Lauck (Porsche 911 GT3 R) 10:06.132 10. #123 Weber / Funke (GM Corvette) 10:07.746 Judging from those times, the qualifying was definitely run in the wet, so the times don't tell us all that much, but good to see the Corvette up there, isn't it? Oh and due to a red flag in qualifying the race will only start at 12.30 instead of noon. Edit: Judging from the Nürburgring-webcam the track seems to dry now. But that, of course, doesn't mean a whole lot - might be raining at the other end of the circuit or start again any moment. Last edited by Speed-King; 25 Sep 2010 at 09:16. |

Ticker and Live-Audio (in German with occassional bad pop music ) here
Timing and Scoring here Top cars beginning the race on slicks it seems. Haha, Coronel Porsche with a towing hitch on the rear bumper!! (That one might only be funny for Germans, but here people tend to believe that each and every Dutchmen owns at least one Caravan. ) Last edited by Speed-King; 25 Sep 2010 at 10:10. |

Disasteat the beginning of the race!!
Hohenadel (Corvette) and Schneider (SLS) in positions 1 and 2 spin in the first corner, Stippler in the Phoenix Audi collects Schneider. The Audi is done. Corvette and SLS continue for now, but the SLS takes the shortcut and comes into the pits. Corvette comes back from the first lap in 6th place... Last edited by Speed-King; 25 Sep 2010 at 10:35. |
