Question on MKIIIC name
The inside joke at the debut of the MKIIIC was that the C stood for Cadillac, as it would most likely have been what the Caddy would have been had the relationship continued. Is this true? If not, what was the MKIIIB if it exisited?

The C couldnt have been caddy, because the caddy is Carbon Fibre and the MkIIIc is steel tube. |

Don't know about the first part, but I believe that the "MkIIIB," although it probably did not formally have that name as far as I can tell, was a revised form of the MkIIIA that was raced in Europe and had a "Le Mans" package that revised the height of the rear wing, among other things...
In the R&S registry, many of those cars are listed with the chassis number followed by "S2"...what that stands for, I have no idea.... |

The MKVI was the 2000 Cadillac
The S2 MKIII is the same as the MKIIIB. Chassis 1-18 are MKIIIA Chassis 19-22 are MKIIIB. Chassis 008 and 015 were converted to MKIIIB spec. The MKIIIB was mainly for Europe with a gears forward 6spd sequntial compared to the gears reaward 5spd H pattern box the MKIIIA had . Last edited by The Badger; 15 Dec 2003 at 18:33. |

The S2/B did have a diffuser. It was tough to put one on the
MKIIIA because of the gears rearward box. The S2/B did have a LeMans aero package available that had a three inch shorter splitter and mounts to move the wing back and down. Hope this helps |

Thanks
Would the entry listed as "R&S Europe" for Le Mans 1999 be the MKIIIB then? |

Yes....any chassis that I have seen that has the revisions has been listed as "Riley & Scott Europe"....
BTW....I thought that there were more than the 091-022 chassis than that designated and configured as the "S2"..... I know that the 008 was converted, but I thought that the 015 was an "actual" S2... I'll look it up... |

You were right, Badger....
008 and 015 were converted and the other S2 chassis were 019-022... the 008 and the 015 were the two "long-tails" that are homologated that I used in the "LMP1 on a Shoestring" thread....a picture of the 015 is on that thread as well... |

I want to know when someone will write the difinative book on the R&S MK.III . Most great cars get a decent book writen about them . But then again maybe it should wait until the Mk.IIIC is retired . Gonta be a wicked read though !!!

The "Retrospective" article on the MkIIIA on the Riley & Scott site is a good read....
I believe it was written for another publication or site, but they have published it on their own site.... I enjoyed it quite a bit.... |

I don't know who owns it (015) now....and to be honest with you, I looked through so many sites for prototype cars and prices that I couldn't tell you where I found the ad for that car or that photo...
But I did write down in my notes that the ad listed the car's changes as being "homologated".... |
