kmchow should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Porsche faster than DTM cars?

I ran into this on the internet.

Autobild made a list of the acceleration and braking numbers for 100 of the hottest performance cars. And on the first place there is the 911 Turbo with best 0-60-0 time. It beats cars like Carrera GT, Mercedes SLR or Ferrari F430.

Best 10 times:

1. Porsche 911 Turbo - 0-60-0 mph: 6.16 sec
2. Porsche Carrera GT - 0-60-0 mph 6.38 sec
3. Lamborghini Gallardo - 0-60-0 mph 6.39 sec
4. Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren - 0-60-0 mph 6.42 sec
5. Ferrari F430 F1 - 0-60-0 mph 6.48 sec
6. Mercedes Benz CLK DTM AMG - 0-60-0 mph 6.5 sec
7. Lamborghini Murcielago - 0-60-0 mph 6.61 sec
8. Porsche 911 GT2 - 0-60-0 mph 6.72 sec
9. Porsche 911 GT3 - 0-60-0 mph 6.73 sec
10. Corvette Z06 - 0-60-0 mph 6.76 sec

What's your point?

I assume the Merc in question is the road car not the race version.

So what you're saying is

Damn annoying that sometimes. It's like all those 'F1' road cars. How to identify chavs in one easy step.

My question is are you suprised?

Unfortunately, I don't think we have full comparison data available. It looked briefly like (if the CLK is the race version) the production cars could be catching up performance wise to race cars?

Understand now. As you'd just posted a list of names/numbers with no comment I wasn't sure if you were making a point or simply wanted a game of automotive Top Trumps.

In answer to your question, am I surprised there are some stunningly quick road cars available, not at all. There were road cars available 20 years ago that could turn in a 0-60 time of 3.5-4 secs. The only real improvement in 0-60-0 times has been thanks to carbon brakes.

Of course these aren't real-world figures. Unless you have the reactions of an experienced test driver and are prepared to risk exploding the clutch on your third attempt you are unlikely to get anywhere near these times. In any case pure acceleration is only one of many factors effecting lap time, unless you put the cars around the track any comparision against a race car is largely meaningless.
