Alonso and Raikkonen nearly swapped places
In this week's Autosport, there's an article claiming that Alonso and Raikkonen nearly swapped places just before the German Grand Prix. This came about due to Alonso's relationship with Renault being at a low point. Apparantly it never happened due to the parties running out of time, i.e. the end of July and Ferrari's option on Raikkonen being taken up.
I have to think though that common sense prevailed in Alonso's head and he decided to stay the course, so that he could win a second championship. |

Ah, ok then.
I thought it seemed ridiculous, but then this is F1, and as Briatore himself has said F1 people often do illogical things! As I said though, I didn't think Alonso would go through with such a thing in the end. Interesting that it turns out to be rubbish then. I thought Autosport is considered quite a reputable fact reporter. |

Maybe they have it on good authority from an inside source and the PR people at Renault don't want the story to taint the image of its title wins...

Well, PitPass would get that response because they talked to Renault. What I gathered from the Autosport article was that McLaren were planning it, but shelved the plans before they even talked to Renault.
