Alex Hodgkinson should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Budget

Im just wondering if any of you guys could tell me some rough figures it will cost to run a kart at national level for one season.

Preferably someone who's actually been there & done it..

I'm looking at a six round championship,

Just wondering how much did you end up spending on it roughly?

Super ICC in Stars Of Tomorrow.

I suppose I could work it out myself, but I'm lazy and I'm just wondering how much other people have spent lol!

entrance = £800
engine maintainance/rebuilds per year = £400
seperate test days = £150 + fuel + travel

tyres per meeting = £150
fuel per meeting = £??
cost to travel to meetings = £??
accomodation = £80 (for two)
food = £40 (for two)

x by 6 meetings per year = £??

Any ideas on the "??'s" ?

I think i read somewhere that depending on how much practice you do within the meeting fuel is normally between about £40-£60 a weekend, i can't remember though so i could be way out. Someone may be able to shed a little light on that though.

Someone i was speaking to at the end of last season is considering Super One next year and has worked out it would cost them about £7,000 for the full season.

Racing is a lot cheaper abroad apparently. Some people actaully live in the Uk but only race abroad in places like France etc.

I reckon that 7k will stand at about the value I'll spend in a year of national 125 racing.

Dave Litchfield (the father of Mark, the FA guy) used to say that he spent around £25,000 a year on his karting, + I think someone at strawberry mentioned something about 70k, but I can't remember how many karts they were talking about because surely it'll cost more than that to run a team.

7k i would expect should do it personally. There are at least two Super One racers on this forum and an international racer so if they see this they may be able to help

Hi guys

I ran S1 in Jnr TKM this year. We spent £10k in total, which included 4 S1 races, the other 16 were clubbies. However, bear in mind that a large amount of our costs are travel-related. For example, Buckmore S1 cost us £1k, and that was a 1066 mile (20h 30m) round trip in total. On a more reasonable level, Larkhall S1 was our most local round (first time you English boys have ever heard that sentence huh? ) and that was £400. Overall, I'd say yeah, £7k is pretty realistic.

I wouldn't say it's really necessary to run with a team, unless you've definitely got the cash for it, but if you can, make sure you do the previous club meeting at each track to learn the track and get a feel for how you're doing relative to the other Stars guys. We spent the first day of each S1 weekend getting used to the track and setup, while the other guys were straight into action, and it put us at a disadvantage.

I'm looking at SICC for a few races this year, hopefully if Stars are running the "club wildcard" scheme I'll be able to race at Larkhall against you

Best of luck Alex

you will need to be looking at £10,000 for the year including tyres hotels fuel (kart & van) rebuilds etc and if you do not get much damage then you might get some change but not a lot.
to run with a top team you will be looking at £30,000 for the S1 o plate and masters

£10,000 all in. Thats assuming you already have a competitive chassis and engine.

I would recommand driving for a team... First of all, you have an optional mechanic, but more important is that a team has got all the possible spare parts you might need... and if something should go terribly wrong just before a race, than there is always the whole team to do an extra effort to get your kart ready... and believe me, if something goes wrong, it's always just before you need it to work In Belgium driving for a team costs another 125 Euro/event, but you got a tent, transportation,and mechanic (I'm talking about GKS, they had Jenson Button, Jan Heylen, Ambrosio and many other top drivers in their team)

well we were in TKM 4stroke super 1 we spent just over 6k and came away with the number 3 plate, also included was TKM festival prices. So 10k seems a good for a ICC class

Tom,

What do you mean -no stupid, high horse, officials?

Are these the officials that give up their time for free?

What makes you think the officials are so bad in the UK?

Andrew
