I could see them dropping GTC and maybe LMPC from the race next year depending on the number of entries but to leave Lime Rock after they spent a lot changing the place would not endear them to a large portion of their fan base. Even if it's a money losing venture, losing fans would be even more harmful.

Is this a serious comment or said tongue in cheek? I live 20 miles outside of Baltimore and know of no track that could host anything like an ALMS race. I have never seen a news article in the Baltimore Sun that has ever posited this as a possibility. Believe me it would be nice to not have to travel to get to an ALMS race, but I doubt it is in the cards.

No tongue involved! It would not be at a permanent course, if it were to happen!

Perhaps something along the harbor-front downtown or maybe something along the lines of the Cadillac Grand Prix of Washington, DC in 2003 which was run around the old RFK stadium and Armory parking lots. Actually both the Raven's stadium and the Camden Yards Park for the Orioles share the same parking lots which are pretty close to the Inner Harbor area and could be tied together for a makeshift track. Well, it might be nice, but I haven't seen anything about it in the papers. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for any local poop on the matter.

They're supporting the Indycar race.

It's a 2.4-mile, 12-turn, street circuit around the stadium, Camden Yards, and the Inner Harbor. Start/finish is on Pratt Street, if I'm not mistaken.

There have been rumblings in various articles since this started coming out that the organizers WANT a double-bill with Indy Cars and the ALMS.

Oh joy, spreading more of it around I see. Which is also what elicited the first response. Good Day!

I've long lamented the inability for people on this board to detect irony.

LP's a touch, how does one say, dense?

6157 just got a week worth of vacation for inflamatory posts and personal attacks in another thread.

Clean it up, people, or you will receive a hiatus, too...

You either take Lime Rock or leave it. The hills and trees make expansion difficult enough, and then you have to consider the church across the street and the environmentalists. There was a proposed Mountain Circuit originally, but the church and lack of funds made that possibility go away. In addition, the land outside Big Bend, and out in that general direction, is rather swampy, which would make building that proposal extremely difficult, even in otherwise ideal conditions.

Do you possibly have a track map of the proposed mountain circuit? I've searched and found nothing but I heard it would have been 1 hell of a ride!

Bing, Google, whatever... 'Lime Rock Park Mountain Circuit' and quite a bit comes up for it. Mostly Sim stuff off the original plan.

Kind of looks like a sideways, left-handed Sebring! Would have been nice.

I think Lime Rock made a mistake with the two chicanes when they re-profiled them and it hurts the racing a little bit. For the first one, the exit after the first right-left moves around too much and makes for a one-lane track. And the second one - even though I've shot probably 1000 photos there - is just "bass ackwards" on design. All they needed to do at West Bend was improve the runoff, and they did it. The chicane there would only serve a good use for motorcycles should they ever run there (not likely)
