The handling of that Mk11 Cortina is simply bizzare, no wonder he ended up in the bushes, I mean too soft on the back or what, did'nt anybody bother to tell him before he stacked it, I have seen rear engined Porches lifting a front wheel like that but never a front engined rear wheel drive car!

thats normal for Cortinas, soft ARB's help as well, also I think the MK2's did it more than MK1's as they where heavier.
hmm U toob . . .not a very productive way to start the day! Last edited by zefarelly; 3 Oct 2007 at 07:06. |

It is Jimmy in the other car is it not? Or possibly Jacky Ickx.
Edit: Thinking about it, it is Jacky Ickx in the other Mk2 Cortina. The Mk1s always cornered like that too! Last edited by Andrew Kitson; 3 Oct 2007 at 14:21. |

I'm pretty sure #105 is Hill, the #106 is Ickx. Anyone recognize the third Mk 2 Cortina (was that Roger Clark perhaps)? And the red Mk1 car at the end of the movie?

It is remarkable that Brian Watson was at so many events that I went to .... The Oulton Park Gold Cups, International Trophy 1970 plus the Monaco GP in 1968 and 1972. Fantastic footage which reminds me I should really start scanning in all those old colour slides! |

Sorry I dont care if God Almighty set up that Cortina Mk 11 its wrong its as simple as that and if it had been set up properly it would have gone even quicker. How on earth can a three wheeling RWD car corner faster than one set up to stay on all 4 wheels. I tell you something I once checked over a suspension set up by none other than Frank Costin and do you know what as an 18 year old whippersnapper I sussed out (and cured in about an hour) why the car had terrible bumpsteer since the day it was built, so I dont care who they are they can still get it wrong and that Mk11 is wrong (IMHO).

Here is my meagre in car efforts from Thruxton 2007 with an small block cooking engine that refused to rev over 5500rpm in qualifing for some unknown reason. It went better in the race but the camcorder battery ran out so only got this lap of qually http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=En-lLjWuO-8 |

I will, I will :-) Seriously the rear end squats so low as soon as power is applied and results in lifting a front wheel it almost looks like they had a broken spring on the back. Maybe it was set up soft to get some traction but surely as Zef said they could have upped (or fitted I know some dont like them) the rear anti roll bar rate.
