Having discussed the tyre matter at the office. We will go your direction and we will allow the slick tyres for cars equipped in period. The definitive regulations will be published next week. When this will be out, please read it carefully so you can give us your feedback as with the tyres. Best, Louis. |

I'm definitely going to do the saloon race. Look forward to a dice with the Alfa, I had some good races with it about 5 years ago.

I think the event sounds amazing and im VERY please the organisers are willing to listen to the racers..... I wont be attending with a cars this year as the little NSU will be going up for sale, how ever hard i try I dont think 1300cc are enough for 70's touring car racing in the UK. 110 ponied NSU against 260 ponied BDG escort or a 440 ponied GAA capri even inventive maths cant make those figures compare
BUT i will be attending as a spectator as once my next car restoration is finished it will be much more interesting...... Actually anyone looking for a spare pair of hand for the event? PM me if so, |

Joe, The Alfa is slower now as the driver is twice the size of the previous piliots!
Should be a handicap! |

On the subject of CC's . . . THe Scandinavians and others seem to be happy to run smaller CC engines and race for class wins . . . I've supplied kits of parts for 1300cc escorts for example, but over here no ones interested in anything interesting, just the biggest bang for the buck - Lotuse Cortina or Mustang for example.

The Portugese run a series for 1300s. Several Escorts in it, mostly Xflow. The 1840cc BD engines that were biggest allowed in 1976 Gp2 Escort supposedly had 260bhp. Surprising as they were wet sump as well, but maybe that's why Zakspeed blew so many up.....

But the question is year period spec aside what were they getting from a 2.0 bd engine? lets say dry sumped ali or cast block with period injection kugel or lucas or any other mechanical injection.

In fact the rules of the time, excluded dry sumping. The rule was reversed half way through 76.

In 1977 we had 270 bhp from a 1970cc Richardson FVC on injection. 1998cc BDGs produced about the same or a little more.

'morninggents' was there and did it, so take it as gospel. 270/275 sounds about limit to me for length of races they were doing in ETCC. Maybe more for a sprint engine, Peter? |
