USF2000 authorities have been announcing other spec providers in Janurary: fuel (VP), brakes (PFC), clutches, starters, (Tilton ) engine control units, wiring harnesses (Pi Research) and now all Élan stuff through the recent Carl Haas distribution deal, including Van Diemen chassis and Hewland gearboxes.

I just recently finished an article/interview with last year's Skip Barber National Rookie of the Year and aspiring Star Mazda competitor... Court Vernon. For anyone interested, you can read it here.

Shame about Erickson. Too many good drivers fall by the wayside due to lack of funding! But I thought he had help from the Australian Motor Sports Association?
Even if he cannot do a full season I'm sure if he could find some money there would be one off drives available to keep him in the game |

He lost the Australian Motor Sport Foundation's support at the end of 2009. Predictably there was no official explanation, but the AMSF has a record of withdrawing its support just when its 'Rising Star' drivers most need help to progress beyond 'entry level' formulas. I understand that the AMSF gives its Rising Stars such a small amount of money (around $A50,000 which anyway is supposed to be repaid if and when they become professional drivers) that it's only significant in an 'entry level' formula like FF1600. It's just a drop in the bucket for 'development' formulas like Star Mazda, F3, GP3, F.Renault2.0, Formula Masters, etc., which makes a joke of the AMSF's mission statement, which includes "The AMSF will directly facilitate the progress of talented young Australians to the pinnacle of international competition ...". Daniel Erickson would be a strong contender this year considering he nearly matched Anders Krohn's best lap time at MRS Houston in his first drive of a 'wings and slicks' openwheeler last December. USF 2000 winner
Before anyone gets carried away with the reports of the winner of F2000 at St Pete's Indy this weekend... he was running 22lbs under weight to the rest of the field!!!! due to regulations not being set properly by friday,,,, as the organizers had not worked out the engines? Ford/Mazda, wings... well race what you got!!! so lets see how the rest of the field can do when racing under the same rules.... the race should have been a non point scoring weekend... and the 1st official round starting end of May at Indy....

Sage won race 2 aswell... Not a series that i would be getting carried away with, 13 cars, probably couldve been 13 cars entered in another series
Conor Daly won around the streets of St Peterburg, his 2nd career Star Mazda victory. Joao Horto was 2nd, 5.429 seconds behind with Caio Lara rounding out the podium. Star Mazda Points |

The F2000 Championship Series (http://www.f2000championshipseries.com/), with 33 drivers entered for the opening round at Virginia International Raceway on April 9-11, looks to be much more competitive than the US F2000 series. Shades of IRL & CART?

As I wrote earlier, the USF2000 boss claims that his championship aims at a different market: drivers who want to make it to Indy. F2000CS bosses didn't agree with that vision, so there you have two series.

That sounds like PR blurb to me. The F2000 series has so many more entries than US F2000 this year that surely it will be the one to watch.

A lot of the teams are planning on servicing both series and many of the competitors driving these cars will end up going to whatever races they can afford or what is convenient to them.

It's probably fair to say that the demise of the FBMW America series has strengthened F2000, in particular the F2000 Championship Series.
