Minardi fan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Anyone else feel that F1 2000 seems a bit... 'flat' when played??? The races are becoming dull and predictable in all honesty.

So I popped F1'97 back into the PS and lo and behold, it is STILL the best PS racer. F1 2000 just pales in comparison to F1 97, which even after 3 years is still superb.

Marvellous.

For me, F1 99 beats both. I own 97 and 99 and have rented 00, so have played all 3! The safety car and Monaco nights cheats are cool and the handling is a lot better. (I lent it to a mate and was stuck with just 97 for a while, my Monaco lap times doubled!)

I traded F1 '99 in. The racing is dull, the AI atrocious, and the car handling rubbish. Plus the damage system is appalling - something which the makers have actually admitted!

I've been playing f1 2000 on the playstation for a bit now, with flags, damage, tyre wear; pretty much everything on at full race distances in an Arrows at the expert level and i keep winning. Even when i smacked the barrier at monaco and lost a tyre, i was still able to win in the end. I have
f1 champ edition, F1 98&99, F1 world GP and Monaco Grand Prix and F1 2000 is the easiest to beat. I also have F1 2000 for the PC, (which the critics slagged) but i'm finding it to be the better version.

I though is was the only one who though F1 championship edition (97 in europe) was the best f1 game. Glad to see i'm normal!

In F1 2000(Monza), my first race i qualified on poll postion with Jenson Button, and easily won - kinda got boring.

In F1 Championship Edition(Monaco), i was doing a championship with Mikka Hakkenin, i qualified in 12th. I battled with so many other cars, passed JV (Driver one actually) in the pits, and then it started to rain, dropped two places, then worked back up and passed M Shumacher (forced him wide just before the tunnel) on the last lap to take the win - better then sex

Yup, even on Expert mode F1 2000 is just WAY TOO EASY. With F1 97, they got it perfect.

I remember one of my classic races. I think I was in a Tyrrell, but I put in the '99 names so I was Zonta. Silverstone. Trundling along, somewhere in the top 6. Eventually I was up into second, but I needed a miracle to catch Ralf Schumacher (Villeneuve/Driver One) who was way ahead of me. Lo and behold, the heavens opened. Being the master off the wet I am, I caught Ralfy at Luffield ON THE LAST LAP, took him and a stunning victory.

And to top it all of, Katayama (Gene) scored Minardi's only ever AI point scored on F1 97!

You will NEVER get a decent race like that on F1 2000.

(Ok ok, so I did once block the pit lane at the Nurburgring and got Katayama to win, but that doesn't count!)

Another thing about F1 Championship edition is that the engines actually sound and behave differently. I haven't yet noticed this in F1 2k, except for the obviously different top speeds. For example I was in the middle of a championship with Mika H, and i was qualifying, I then tried it for fun with a Williams and the difference in top-end, sound and torque was noticeable. The top end pull seemed similar but the torque curve was hollow in the Mercedes.

The different engines sounds are fantastic on F1'97. The Minardi has a distinct whine, while the Jordan buzzes. Also, the cars all have different top speeds.

On F1 2000, they all sound the same and all reach the same speed.
