A premature and slightly disappointing end, but having been blessed with nearly 2 years total reliability I suppose it had to end sometime . . . . we did get nearly 3 hours out of the old girl so it wasn't that bad. A shame the races where so close together as an engine and diff change could have been done in 3 hours I think, but certainly I was already very tired by then anyway. It had been a hectic week or two.
up at 4am Thu, we got to Spa in good time to sign on and set up camp, only to find our race had been amalgamated with the 70's stuff, then hang around waiting for scrutineering. I was a little apprehensive at first, but it was fine in reality, although slick shod 70's cars are pretty quick. It did mean we would be struggling to get close to the top 30 in one of, if not the oldest car on the grid. 1st practice was little more than a reccie and a shake down, qualifying was a little more spirited and night practice a hoot, I love the dark and hopped out of the car beaming like the Cibies ( Belgian yellow ones got the thumbs up from scrutes and Marshalls!) we ended up stripping the gearbox on Saturday morning and changing the synchro hub and baulk rings, as well as sorting through the rails and forks from 3 boxes to find the best location and engagement for 2nd gear. I couldn't find anything wrong with any one part, but something wasn't quite right, I think just a build up of tolerances meant the hub wasn't staying fully engaged . . . . It was ok for the race, if a little crunchy going in, if the revs weren't right. I now think its the quaife gear that's the problem . . . I've had one box in the car for 8 years up until this weekend and its always been bang on. oh, I did a 3:21 in practice, matching a 5 year old dry PB, and a 3:17in qually, quite pleased with that. Come the race we lined up 31st . . .staring at a trio of GTA's . . . . one did ones best and got the lot! personal highlight was up the inside into La Source, down the outside into EuRouge and won the drag race up the Kemmel straight. no idea where I was overall, didn't matter, I got a race of my own won. NO idea what happened to the engine and can't be arsed to look at the moment, but its catastrophic and largely scrapped the bottom end I think. hey ho. we stopped at a friends in Landelies on Sunday, a stunning spot, and house, a Victorian restoration project on a grand scale, fine dining Sunday night, and a leisurely cruise home yesterday . . . oh, I did a 3:16.6 in the race, I said before the event, if I could get into the mid teems I'd be very pleased, and I am. The difs tired, gearbox dodgy and engine grenaded, but no ones hurt, the shell is straight, everything else is just bolt on goodies . . . would definitely do it again. Even when it goes tits up Spa is good. If I'd been stuck in some miserable northern **** hole with the thought of wasting 8 hours of life on the M6 I'd be on the anti depressants already |

Hi everyone,
I wanted to thank all the drivers and teams who took part in the Spa-Classic Endurance Touring Car race. It has been a lot of work to get the cars there for everyone and I hope that you've enjoyed your weekend. I hope we will see you back in our races as the aim is to have a series running for those fantastic cars. If you have any questions or feedback to give please PM me Thanks again, Louis. |

Commiserations to Zef and Gordon - such a long way to go for a non finish.
Is there a link to the results anywhere? |

I think The CSL in the background must be the one Brian Randall renovated.

Well done Mike and Cliff for a fairly giant killing effort with the Canary!
Must've been a cracking weekend for all judging by the stories and pics I've seen so far? 40 odd cars in the touring invitation event, excellent, mostly pre 74 cars but not so much in the way of modern classics from the Group A period, wonder why that was? Still how good it must've been to see the Batmobile's against the Cologne's!!!!! What's the deal with that light blue Escort, must've been a right rocketship?! |

THanks Peter, I've come home with more positives than negatives, and its not that far . . .from the English Riviera
French Escorts are different to an Englishman's that's for sure. And many thanks to Mike for the loan of heat gun and circlip pliers to rebuild our gearbox. I owe Mike a pair of tips |

That's what I thought, but I don't know exactly the specs that the cars in Mike Bell's race were racing to ?
As usual there are always grey areas especially at Spa and if things were ruled with a rod of iron probably half of the cars competing would be excluded |

What happened to the Knapfield Camaro? I still haven't managed to see any pics of that, and it's supposed to be some seriously original Grp2 kit is that right?

Hi everyone,
the Knapfield Camaro, was there and was black flagged during the qualifying because of the noise, much over the limit (107db), of course, not all the cars were silenced as the measure was done as an ambiant one. Anyway, the car looked like an original grp 2 spec car on the paper but it seems that there are a lot of irregularities. I'm awaiting the report of the scrutineers for it. Claude Boissy escort, pardon my mistake is a Mk 1 but RS what ? Please help ! The car is correct but I cannot tell what the exact spec it is. I know he has a pinto block with holbay head on it but after... The race for Touring Cars was a "first experience" and it seems that it worked well with a great pack of cars from the Isuzu and Cortina GT up to the 635s. Of course there were some irregularities but the aim is to build an FIA correct grid maybe two, one for up to 2000cc pre 66 and the other for the bigger capacities and later cars. Our scrutineers saw the cars and were pretty much very happy with what they saw, now I need to see their report and we will build our regulations according to it. All entrants will receive an email and we hope they will give us their feedback. |

I got a tut tut (en Francais) for an aluminium radiator, but can honestly say I was running the correct 1500cc motor on points!
