Since then, the character of the event has changed, no doubt about it. Personally, I was really disappointed when entry for development series teams was closed off - I understood why, but it was a disappointment.

Yeah but Tourer, while "hijack" may not be the correct word to use, you get bluesport's point. If not a hijack, certainly muscling in and imposing themselves. I mean, the only thing that was given up was a date change. Big deal! The ardc wasn't running a 1000 for super touring, they were running the original 1000, and super touring was the only category there that gave the race any sort of legitmacy. Cocho knew they were taking away an important commercial factor away from the ardc. For a guy who you've said enjoyed watching the race growing up, it was a **** of a way going about shifting power possibly ******* both 1000s up.
What do you expect "the fans" to do? Emotionally, the V8 1000 was the real one, which was fair enough. With the help v8sc got from cams and the Bathurst council, it was hardly a fair "fight". Imagine allowing them another date at Bathurst (which is one thing) the following month, and then allowing to host a 1000?

How would the V8 vs 2L war have played out if V8Supercars weren't able to do a deal with the Bathurst Council to get their own event up and running......
Would it have turned out like the IRL/CART war

It wasn't that simple and I think you know that - the V8s weren't wanted, were referred to as "Dinosaurs" so did exactly what Bluesport suggested they should have done - went and ran their own event.
When the ARDC event fell over, it left only one and that one then relocated to a date close to the original event and can lay claim to legitimacy due to leading teams, ATCC status, leading drivers yada yada.
Cocho would argue that he was preserving the legitimacy of the race whilst the ARDC were denigrating it by pushing the V8 teams away. Two sides to every story and that story is pretty bloody old now.
